Grumble: don't people search anymore if their question/feature request has been asked already?

Don't think they do. The other day I made a sticky on CPDN boards for the constant questions from those who haven't been able to download any work so the post is there to refer them to rather than have to type it out again or look myself for where the answer is.

And then you find on your way the newbie who disabled sticky reordering in their preferences. ;-)

A small glory, in these hard times. The pub across the road - now closed for the duration - is selling off its surplus draught ale as a carry-out, for a pound a pint. Bring your own container. So I've got a couple of pints of gnat's piss for tonight, and a pint of the decent stuff for tomorrow's outrage party.

No, I don't have any knowledge about that, either way. But I thought it best to be prepared - and I had three suitable containers!

Glory: I have a new apartment. Just went over to see it and I liked it quite a lot. Two bedroom apartment, pretty big living room, add-on kitchen with a balcony. Was 80% sold when I saw it. Am now completely sold.

The trouble is that our government imposed stricter travel rules at the same time, going to June 1st.

Stay at home. Travel only when necessary for work, medicines or grocery shopping. No groups larger than 2 people. Keep the 5 feet distance or get a 400 euro fine.

There's no carpeting in the flat, I will have to go to a store to get nice carpets and lay them myself or have them laid. But with the stricter movement rules each week I doubt that by the 5th of May when I get the keys, I will be able to do anything.

Nothing said about the actual moving...

Just completed my weekly 'dash and grab' food run to the CoOp.

Glory - no traffic (to speak of). Empty car park. No queues to get in or out, just wait in line (I was #3, behind 'scanning and packing' and 'unpacking basket to conveyor belt'). Everything I normally buy was in stock (including milk) - just had to change to an alternate breakfast cereal. Back at car in well under 20 minutes.

Grumble - no small change! Town centre store, shares car park with the rest of the town. Pay at meter, coins only, no change. Get voucher, redeem in store - and pay the rest by debit card. I'm running out of 70p pieces - had to raid the piggy bank.

I'm actually quite enjoying this way of life. Back out now for the permitted 'exercise walk' to the paper shop.

Enough time to hold your breath then.

70p pieces? Did something change back there that you have odd pieces like that?

But if they are, then how does he use them in the parking meter?

Yes, they should have minted those when the put the prices up, in a single jump, from 50p per hour last year to 70p per hour. You can only buy whole hours...

I don't really mind paying £1.50 for my two-hour Saturday lunch, but none of the other permutations really work. Best is 50p + 20p, but it requires careful management and regular small cash purchases.

Grumble, for the 3rd month in a row I have not received a statement for my Visa card so went to the local branch an paid the bill prior to the due date. Today I went proactive and called them. After a delightful 45mins in hold was able to talk to someone. It seems the post office returned a statement and the bank decided that they may not have a valid address so they stopped sending out statements. I think there is a fair chance it got fixed.

Our government is looking into one or two apps that everyone with a smartphone is obligated to install, with which they can track our every movement under the guise that if we come into contact with someone who will fall ill of corona, that they can send everyone who has been in the neighborhood of this person a message that they should now go into self-isolation. No.

However, by default I have location on my phone turned off except when using it as a satnav. I also switch the phone off before leaving home while travelling and when I don't want to be antisocial and interrupt time with others, e.g. at work. If people are desperate to contact me they can leave a message for mobile or landline. They would not be able to make me keep the thing switched on in order for the app to work.

The app switches the phone on, at least the GPS and CPU.

I don't care. Orson Wells is having a party in his grave. He foresaw this coming. Once it's on your phone they'll find reasons to make you never take it off again. No!
