Very grumble, more than one computer acting up at a time.
One likely a PSU, the other seems to be verifying its RAID.

I thought that UPS and surge protectors were supposed to help

Update, it is a PSU. PITA to find a replacement too, discontinued. Did find one, shipping as much as the unit to get it here in a reasonable amount of time.

As to the other, 140 verify errors, nothing reports as bad, SMART indicates nothing amiss, neither drive has used a spare sector.

OBW backups did complete before it all went wonky.

After a joint recital of the Po-Lice's family tree we used "alternative approaches" to get the files.
Then set our MD on them - shame there is no video of the event, but it would be a bit one-sided 300lb ex Canadian ice hockey player in a bad mood against a 140lb soccer fan dribbling with fear.

Guys on the help desk were handing out the advise "If you can find an alternative, please use it", or "We've found this might work....."

Loved the older ice hockey era with enforcers and bench clearing brawls!

At least they didn't give you the run-around by telling you to try to reset the modem, the router or the internet or to log off and back in.

There was a time when New Scientist's anti-porn software stopped their website designers looking at their own site.

Glory: Mr. XYZ is in. PSU swapped, work's box so I don't handle the guts, and instantly the green PSU alive came on when the power cord went it and the box booted up very happy. Back to the office and it found the server instantly. Think I plugged the keyboard into a different USB port, because it downloaded the driver all over again. (Can anyone tell me why doze has to D/L the driver over and over again and simply not change the address of the peripheral on the copy is has? -- er never mind it is doze ware)

Glory: Been a week since the switch to Bulb. Pro rata, it looks like I'll be saving a further £44.92 over & above what I was saving with Economy. :-) Still got over a weeks supply of gas before I activate their gas supply, so it will be nice to see what savings can be made there.

Grumble: Got a "nice" letter from Boost this morning stating that due to increased costs, we will be raising ours I couldn't stop laughing at the last line: "Based on your meter readings from the past 12 months, we think that you have used 3,209 kWh of electricity & 4.494 kWh of gas"

Wonder if I'll get a reply to the letter just posted.

Do you employ anyone that uses the Mk 1 Computer? From what was received this morning, I very much doubt it. Enclosed are two copies of correspondence received from yourselves dated 11th February and 21st February.

I suggest you delete the above account as I have not voluntary switched to your company. In fact, with all the research done, I find you to be a disreputable one.

Please forward final correspondence confirming that I am not a customer of your company and will no longer receive any communications from you.

The service received from one of your competitors puts yours to shame.

No, it's measured in cubic metres (or, if you have a very old meter, cubic feet).

But it's billed in kWh. That's what those 60 different supply companies - OK, 50 different companies, at least ten have gone bust - do. They turn volume into power by multiplying by 39.8 and dividing by 3.6: it's not clear how many of them get it right.
