Chris dear, please calm down.

Yes, it's the gridcoin lot, and yes, it's a lot of them sharing one account, not just one guy. And it's nothing to do with SETI: they work across the spectrum of BOINC projects. It's been discussed on this board already.

If it's anybody's fault, it's the Western capitalist financial system which has brainwashed everybody into seeing every interpersonal transaction in purely financial terms. "Freedom" (so passionately advocated by the West) includes the freedom for individuals to earn money by crunching if somebody offers them that facility.

The best of luck in swimming against the tide if you want to pursue that one.

And it's nothing to do with SETI:
It is when it slews the leader boards!
SETI is about the scientific search for extra-terrestrial intelligence (that's what it says on the tin), not about leader boards.

I'll see if can find a picture of my bedroom with 14 comps running Seti, and an arm & a leg leccy bill. That is true dedication not this modern pay lip service crowd we have today.
WOW that's a damned turnup for the books! Who was it that moaned at me for running 16 rigs & 4 servers from home?

I can recall the first time you mentioned that you hit 1 billion cobblestones - funny thing is though that at the time you did that, your Seti total didn't come close to 1% of that billion, so get off your high horse & just crunch.

One wonders what justification there is to run one home computer 24/7. Does that not, in itself, compromise the principles on which seti was founded? ;-) 14 in one's bedroom suggests problems elsewhere at home. Concentrating on those rather than reams of written complaints might be advised? ;-)

SETI is about the scientific search for extra-terrestrial intelligence (that's what it says on the tin), not about leader boards.

I was running a local IT business & often used Boinc as a burn in test :-) I believe at one time I had a total of 120 cores crunching (pre GPU days)

Just for the record, my Boinc total is approx. 19 mill so my Seti percentage is approx. 9-9.5% :-)

A fine use, Sir.

Indeed an average would be an interesting way of moving forward - total rac divided by number of active rigs. A measure of dedication if you will ;-)

Thank you. I believe there was a better use for Boinc which I posted a few years ago. A customer took their family on vacation for a month. 4 days after I knew they had arrived thousands of miles away, their system was crunching (attached to my account :-) ).

When they arrived home, it was dead, their nephew had fried it - how & why I don't know. When I pointed out that he had been using the system right up to the day they arrived back in the UK, he paid for a new build :-)

Boinc is great security :-)

Indeed. :-) I take no issue with how people contribute to any project. That some have confused ego with science is where I take issue. :-)

It wasn't very long before people were running kit 24/7, then multi computer farms came in, and finally bare boards rigs in racks.
14 in one's bedroom suggests problems elsewhere at home.
Further proof you lost the argument, so give it up & just crunch. Your whinging over this has gone on long enough!

Have you thought about looking on your other bright side? That it could mean up to 754 less people able to post and annoying you that way?

And your other big bugbear - people posting with a low rac...? There could be some of them lurking in amongst that lot...

;)

Can the personal attacks, please stop? Want to have a discussion about one's goal to do science? Fine, but you can do so without having to attack the other party on a personal basis.

Delighted to hear it, Mr S! :-)

With all the needful things one requires at different points in life, it still amazes how many see money as "easy come, easy go".

iPhone 4s is easy to use, & there are contracts out there cheaper than PAYG. Do some fact checking, it'll save you a lot of grief :-)

like the headline "iPhone X: Why did people queue up overnight?"
Answer because some people heard like lemmings going over a cliff. Oh, wait, Apple used that as their second Superbowl commercial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw76XpN8WcA

So how the devil did they get together in the first place?
A very good question. I'd guess, most often, some other fool was persuaded to give it to them.
