I finally got a linux box running and networked. Using FC5. Added seti & predictor projects... Just a couple of issues if anyone can help; How can I get my computer's name to show on the Your computers list? Right now it shows "localhost.localdomain". The hostname on my comp. is set. The other issue is my boinc installation is currently using /root as it's data dir. It should be using /var/lib/boinc... I used the main tutorial here setup as a daemon. How can I get that corrected? Thanks for anyone's help, Lucid *Is there a search link?* |

I finally got a linux box running and networked. Using FC5. Added seti & predictor projects... G'day Lucid Seems like you have a reference somewhere to localhost and not your hostname check etc/hosts and make sure the entry 127.0.0.1 references both your hostname and localhost. Mine are 127.0.0.1 hostname localhost (where hostname is your actual hostname) I'm pretty sure the order is important too, ie. your hostname before localhost. As for the second question that is beyond my limited knowledge, sorry. EDIT: Looks like you have a problem with your installation, as your wu's are erroring out - can't open or resume application - maybe this was the reason that you posted this question? I would install BOINC using the supplied script and check that you can use it normally, then try installing as a daemon. I did look at the daemon instructions some time back but found they were not that easy to follow, and I think they refered to an earlier version of BOINC. Thanks Trog Dog, Ya I changed the info in /etc/hosts but it didn't take effect. I must have to restart BOINC for it to take effect. I'll try that in a few after I report some finished predictor results. For the errored out results for seti, I believe that was due to my computer locking up. I got the computational errors when I restarted BOINC...hope for no more there lol. EDIT: Yep a restart worked and now my hostname shows. Ya I will likely reinstall BOINC to get running as a daemon. Wasn't sure if any *nix gurus knew how to copy those files over to save the wu's. As soon as I got BOINC installed, I saw there was a new version out for all platforms, may just do a fresh install with that... Lucid |
