Think of a possible bright side: that Dotster could be trying to not do something similar to what Symantec did by issuing credentials to the wrong entities. If you don't know what I mean, Symantec issued several bad security certificates in 2015 according to https://arstechnica.com/security/2015/09/symantec-employees-fired-for-issuing-rogue-https-certificate-for-google/ and 2017 according to https://arstechnica.com/security/2017/01/already-on-probation-symantec-issues-more-illegit-https-certificates/, and the initial internal audit that Symantec conducted in regards to the bad certificates in 2015 failed to catch many bad certificates according to https://arstechnica.com/security/2015/10/still-fuming-over-https-mishap-google-gives-symantec-an-offer-it-cant-refuse/. Think about the problems that could happen if Dotster accidentally let a fraudster get the bakerlab.org domain if it was not careful. |

I have hacked the /etc/passwd file (on Windows) as such: You mean /etc/hosts. Here is the rest as found on https://twitter.com/chenshaoju/status/839773321759621120 128.95.160.140 boinc.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.142 srv1.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.143 srv2.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.144 srv3.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.145 srv4.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.146 srv5.bakerlab.org |

Dude, I was just coming here to post my success story. You stole my thunder! :) Thanks!!! I used wireshark to look for DNS traffic, saw that the BOINC client looked for srv3.bakerlab.org. Used the suggested manual IP resolution site, and got its IP. Here's my hosts file entries: 128.95.160.140 boinc.bakerlab.org 128.95.160.144 srv3.bakerlab.org Results uploaded fine. PS: yes /etc/hosts -- sorry, long day at work... |

Dude, I was just coming here to post my success story. You stole my thunder! :) I would have posted the list earlier but I don't run Rosetta. The easiest way to compile the list is to look for bakerlab.org in the local client_state.xml file of a Client that is attached to Rosetta. No need for capturing packets although that worked too. |

I have hacked the /etc/passwd file (on Windows) as such: Thanks. It worked for me on Windows 7. As for Ubuntu 16.10, to edit the hosts file I used: sudo -i gedit /etc/hosts and just retried the uploads, and it worked. This is not for the average user, but it cleared up my backload. I haven't had to edit a hosts file in years, and never on Linux before, so it is a learning experience. |

Hello from Rosetta@home: as others noted, we are back on line. I'll spare you the litany of curse-filled phone calls that resulted in Dotster turning the light back on. Instead I want to forward our project's thanks for the support of the community. You folks are impressive. Cheers, -KEL |

Enigma@Home is down because the VPS which hosts the web server is not responding. For the past few days it went offline a couple of times and the service provider was unable to fix the problem so far, so at this moment I'm considering moving this server somewhere else. |

Einstein was up again after May 28 but is down again due to a power surge at UWM late last night which is currently not resolved. No ETA right now. |

Hopefully Rosetta will back on line soon. Messages from the website: Rosetta@home is temporarily shut down for maintenance. Please try again later. Jun 20, 2017 Outage notice. The project will be down for a day or so starting tomorrow as we transition to new servers using the latest BOINC server software. |

World Community Grid is down! Projects aren't uploading, and the main site displays the following message on every page: "Unfortunately, an error occurred while processing your request. You can try again or you can Contact Us and tell us about the error." |
