Mailing list? Where??
If the message board is inefficient, i think also mailing list is not so good.

https://groups.google.com/a/ssl.berkeley.edu/forum/?pli=1#!forum/boinc_projects
That gets directly into the inbox of the developers and those project admins that have signed up to that list.

These forums are for volunteers to help people with problems, the developers of BOINC have moved on to Github

Message 102708 - Posted: 25 Jan 2021, 22:11:06 UTC - in response to Message 102687.

I'm currently attached to: Einstein, Rosetta, WCG & LHC.

That notwithstanding, the following projects listed in the BOINC projects-listing are essentially defunct:

Asteroids
BOINC@Tacc
CSG
Cosmology
...

ETC.

I'm not going to waste additional time of mine finding viable projects. The fact is that a significant number of BOINC projects - 2/3's ??? are not viable - in that there is NO activity on the respective BOINC-community message-boards.

One project that I'd be interested in - Folding@Home - seems not to be part of the BOINC community.

Whatever. I'm going to look into getting that Dell T7400 to run. That notwithstanding, nevertheless, all that, and whatnot: there's some issues w/ BOINC project participation.

You BOINC-people look into that, I'll look into this, and we'll see where the twain shall meet.

Professor Ray

You ran Seti for a number of years .. in fact you signed up on May 17, 1999 exactly one day before I did on May 18, 1999. The Milkyway project has been running for about 12 or 13 years now and appreciates people like you and me. Good hard science that is Space related. Take a look maybe you can find some clock cycles for it too.

Thanks
Bill F

NumberFields@Home is down with what appears to be a hard drive crash.

We hope to have this resolved in the next few days.

We finally got someone in to take a look at the server. After a hard reboot and a check of the file system, things appear to be back to normal.

We are continuing to monitor the system, just in case.

The drive crashed again (keeps dropping into read-only mode). Reboots are not helping this time. We should have the new SSD installed sometime next week.

NumberFields@home should be back momentarily. The project has been reinstalled on the new hard drive and we are about to restore the database.

Asteroids seems to be back up and running. My outstanding results have uploaded and validated or are waiting validation.
Let's hope Cosmology joins back in shortly.

Progress! Cosmology@Home web pages are still not secure and many do not work but all the servers are running and I have received new work.

Thank you. I had stopped looking, but have a new machine I could try on Cosmology.

While Cosmology might be in limp along mode I personally would not invest any more clock cycles into it until it is actively managed again. They have not posted a Science document in years and the Lead professor is not active with the project admin who has disappeared.

Maybe someday they will be worth volunteer time again but not right now. There are lots of other deserving projects out there.

Thanks

It looks like WCG is down. I guess it is OPNG overloading the servers, or something like that.
But I had several MIP's erroring out at the same time too, which may be related.

It is all rather unusual, and I don't see any way to check on it, as the website is down too.

EDIT: The website is now up, but slow to respond. I have several OPNG stuck in download.

MLC@Home is down.
I think they are changing their server, so maybe it is planned.

EDIT: Back up.

According to their Facebook page there's NETWORK ISSUES AT THE UNIVERSITY causing the outage.

Looks like Milkyway@home will be down "at least for a few more days" as the University continues the investigation into the unauthorized network intrusion.
