Profile: listener

Your personal background.
Retired, ancient programmer type geek.
Software systems by trade, he rest of the hardware, network, op-sys... is just for fun.
The first PC I saw had a nibble(4-bit) processor, and looked like the Borg tried to assimilate a manual typewriter.
Like all First Loves, it is still the most wondrous thing I had... have ever seen. (Thank you Gene!)
I've written code in Assembler, SAP ABAP and almost everything in between.

My other interests:
Reading: ...and by reading I mean reading books. Nothing will ever replace the joy of holding a book and visiting the world it contains!
Yes, I read via my computer, tablet and phone. That's a different matter.
Astronomy: How could I look at the night sky and not be entranced!
Music: Listening to and performing music. I learned to read music almost before I could read English.
The learning started at the same time, reading music just went faster.
My animals: Everything from ferrets to horses. Dubious? Look at my avatar, that's Pepper.
Friends: Whether there is joy, or pain. They are my friends, and nothing will ever change that.
Your opinions about BOINC message boards
1. Why do you run BOINC?
The SETI@home BOINC precursor was my introduction to volunteer computing. It was a pioneering idea. Then there was BOINC, and it is a Great idea!
I run BOINC as a way to contribute idle resources that would otherwise go unused.

2. What are your views about the project?
BOINC is an exciting evolution of volunteer computing! It really shows what amazing things that can be done with even small contributions.

3. Any suggestion?
Continue to evolve. Keep driving the BOINC concept forward, even if it takes an unexpected turn. There are going to be mistakes. Just keep going!
