Could someone please explain to me why the BOINC software is updated soooooo often?

1:Software with the degree of complexity of BOINC will always have bugs. Priority for fixing these depends on how seriously the effect of them is. E.g. if a bug was causing data corruption of tasks it would get top priority.
2: From time to time users of both the client and server parts of BOINC decide that such and such a feature would be really useful. They then put in a request for this to be included in the next release.

This is of course true of much other software, e.g. all that comes from the MS stable. The difference there is that the end user typically doesn't see a change in the version number so despite numerous updates Windows10 has not moved on to Windows11. On the other hand for myself at least running the Windows version of BOINC under WINE, each time a new version comes out I manually install it. (The Linux version on the other hand updates as part of the automagical update system and when prompted I usually just click on the install updates button.)

Thank you.

It still seems like BOINC is updated much, much more often than other software.

I don't really mind. After all, it only takes a minute to upgrade. I was just curious.

Forgetting that it was Tuesday, I copied several jokes for the Joke thread. I'll post them here, instead.

---------------------

Angela Merkel arrives at Passport Control in Athens airport.

"Nationality?" asks the immigration officer. "German," she replies.

"Occupation?"

"No, just here for a few days."

-------------------

An old man lay awkwardly sprawled across three entire seats in the movie theatre and when the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the old man, "Sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat."

The old man didn't budge.

The usher became more impatient "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."

Once again, the old man just muttered and did nothing.

The usher marched briskly back up the aisle and in a moment he returned with the manager. Together, the two of them tried repeatedly to move the man, but with no success.

Finally, they summoned the police.

The officer surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy, what's your name?"

"Joe," the old man moaned.

"Where are you from, Joe?" asked the police officer.

With a terrible strain in his voice, and without moving, Joe replied... "The balcony."

Registration on the first day back at school in Leicester England:

Mustafa Al Sheriah "Here"

Ahmed El Sheriah "Here"

Fatima El Bindiri "Here"

Ali Acmah Shabeeb "Here"

Ali Sun Al En No answer

Ali Sun Al En?

A little girl at the back stands up and says "it's pronounced Alison Allen."

Well they must have an equivalent.

14) Message boards : BOINC Manager : Wishlist for Mac (Message 55215)

The BOINC Manager is causing my MacMini to run real, real, real slow. Seriously. I've just upgraded to the Beta version of OS X Yosemite, but this has been going on since before I upgraded. Before that I was running whatever the newest public version was (prob OS X 10.9.4, since that is what's on my old macbook). People have given me advice on how to improve performance by adjusting BOINC preferences and such, which I have done. But my MacMini is still running like molasses when BOINC is running. I'm 99% sure it's BOINC that's causing this because, when I put it to sleep or quit it, the computer speeds up.

I'm running version 7.2.42 (for Mac, of course). I don't recall this ever happening before I installed this version.

Since this is the "Wishlist for Mac" group, let me put this into the form of a wish:

•I wish this didn't happen.
•I wish someone could tell me how to make it stop once and for all.
•I wish I wasn't the only one having this problem. (Sorry if that means someone else has to suffer, but really, who wants to suffer alone? And it will also mean it's not my fault.)
•I wish the BOINC developers would contact me to let me know how to fix it, or that a new version is on the way that won't cause the slowdown.

Too many wishes?

I'm not really a "new member," but I wasn't able to log into BOINC
and I can't find the file on my computer that supposedly has my
authorization number.

And that's quite frustrating!!!

Sue

Since there is no "project" here (BOINC Developers fora) you don't attach. If you don't attach there is not authorization number generated. Just user name and password.

Welcome "newish member" Sueie-Q.

When I first tried to post I was asked to log in. When I couldn't (because
it told me my email address was unknown), it told me to find such-and-
such file on my computer and copy the authorization number in order to
log in (without my email address). I have to assume they know what
they're talking about and that the authorization number exists somewhere.

Why would they tell me I can log in with an authorization number if I can't?

(Not trying to be snarky. Just confused.)
