You can post in technical threads with zero RAC.
I was already wondering how else you would report problems with apps/tasks if you hadn't managed to run any of them correctly and were a first poster there. But thanks. :)
Last such post in Beta was in 2016.

The Seti BETA crunchers will all soon need a place to post, no work in forever and RAC's are falling below the post limit.

The last post in the linked thread is out of date. Virtually none of the tasks for Climate Prediction have graphics now. There is I think just one model type that has but there haven't been any tasks of that type since CPDN came back on line. Also the tasks available right now don't run on Linux and require WINE.

It might well be that case that there are no projects that support the screensaver in BOINC for Linux any more.

I have a number of projects happily humming along on my Raspberry Pi 3 B+s but for the life of me I cannot get the screensaver included in the package (sudo apt-get bionc install) to work. Can't find any instructions either. Can anybody help me get this working? TIA

All I can do is point you to another thread https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=11102

I wonder if it is to do with the fact that your cell numbers are linked to your local codes, so are basically the same as a landline to a spammer.

Over here a new code group was created that is totally different to the local code groups

So for instance in the USA if your home number was (212) 555 xxxx you mobile may well be the same, so much so that I have called my sister (who lives in Hanover PA) on the wrong number because both are so similar.

Here in the UK my home number is 020 8680 xxxx and my mobile is 07988 xxxxxx, all mobiles have an 07 prefix

Hopefully no spammers actually read the posts here as I just gave the game away.

That might help, if we did that, but here people can take their old landline number, say their parents, and put in on a cell phone just to keep it in case long lost persons call.

Of course the GDPR you all have likely helps a lot, here they just trade your personal info around for less than a penny a person and it is off to the Philippines or India for those zero cost VOIP calls.

You guys are lucky over there. We get plenty of spam calls on the cell number. Talk to TimeLord.

Well, soon enough the scams from India and the Philippines will find out how to dial your numbers, then watch out.

They're from all sorts of different people, from charities to who knows what - half the time, I say hello 3 times and nobody is there.

I've started to just say "YO" or "Yellow". Confuses their automated software.

An Air Tray works best, that way they don't put up much of a fuss going in.

It has been down almost 4 hrs, methinks that is long enough. I am ready for it to come back.

How much more before it is an outrage?!

@annie, I hate crooks. I have a special treatment for them. I'll just borrow the DNA eraser at work and put them inside. Works every time.

Walked into the bank today to do a deposit for the company, two actually. Sitting next to the wall behind the teller about 16 boxes labeled Dell. Computers on the desks labeled Lenovo. Running back and forth, crawling under and over things, two guys who obviously were not in bankers clothes. One was chewing on a twisty tie. Finally saw the logo on the shirt and it was for a cable TV Internet company. Don't need to be told something is up.

The transaction took about three times longer than normal.

Now I wonder, do those new Dell's have the banking world's favorite O/S loaded? XP? Or have they had to abandon that for something modern? 7?

I feel for you Jord.

Oh, I do enjoy spicy, but there are some things that are too f'in hot. I think it depends a lot on what the food is that the spice is on and the temperature the dish is served. Watery, oily, absorbing, etc. It may also depend on the kind of pepper.

Well, I like spicy, too, but I also like to taste the ingredients. I was breaking a little sweat on level number 1, and that was just enough kick for me.

Understand and I like to taste things too. One thing about spicy is the more often you eat it the less you get burn and can taste the subtle flavors of the peppers.

I don't feel like cooking tonight. I think I'll get something from this Thai restaurant:

Looks more Asian combo than straight Thai. Still looks like lots of good things. Just too bad it looks like they have gone American with some of the ingredients like the mushrooms.

What spice level do you usually get? I'd never been to this place, so I'm glad I chose "1". ;~)

Well, one place I went I ordered spicy, but they did spicy for a white guy. I asked for the pepper condiments and proceeded to actually put some spice into it. Took a couple bites and then added in more. Waitress* looking out kitchen door, what is white guy putting in a Thai home cooked level of spice? Finished it. Never had a problem when I ordered spicy from her again. Mind you it was lunch time and 100+ outside, so I wanted to sweat. Fast way to cool down if the humidity isn't too high. Now the other waiter there, I never could get him to get it spicy. He always told the kitchen wimp. Hate that. It is hard to get the spice even unless it gets cooked in.

Ah, finally, rain. For the first time since May do we have serious rain here, complete with light shows and loud noises and bangs. Gonna enjoy it, and at the end of it, stand outside in the rain. The lightning is a tad too much now to do so.

Sounds like perfect weather to recreate Ben Franklin's kite experiment. ;-)

The quickest method involves a steam roller followed by a chipper. And yes they do make chippers for magnetic disk drives. Large document shredding services have them.

Sorry about the time, but the erase program has to write to every sector. Take your drives sustained write speed* and divide by the size of the drive. Multiply by the number of passes. Add in a fudge factor.

*Likely degraded by now because of spared sectors.
