For that, you'll have to subscribe to the thread (button at the top).

As a workaround, perhaps you can alleviate the effect by changing the BOINC manager exit options to not stop the client and applications when the manager exits.

I couldn't find the "Suspend work if..." which sounds like it might be the culprit.

Of course you couldn't find it. It only exists (as mentioned before) in the web-based settings, not in the local preferences where you've been looking.

Is there a way I can stop WCG from being my de facto global prefs?

Yes, make a change to your global preferences at any other of your projects. That will switch the source of your global preferences to that project.

Are there other files I need to restore from backup or config settings to make?

Perhaps a link from gui_rpc_auth.cfg to your (or the BOINC user's) home directory?

I can't believe that BOINC doesn't upload finished tasks immediately (as long as the network is available). Are those tasks really marked as "Uploading" in the status column of the Tasks tab or are they "Ready to report"?

If the latter, they are already uploaded, just not reported to the database. That will happen at the next work request or after 24 hours, whatever comes first.

Posted 11 Jul 2013 by Profile Gundolf Jahn

That sounds like the BOINC manager having problems connecting to the client. Perhaps those are access right problems or ones with the firewall.

I can't help you any further, because I'm no MAC user.

Post:
It is not the BOINC manager that uses 80% of your CPU(s), it's the science applications that do. They are controlled by the BOINC client. The manager is only the Graphical User Interface to show the status of the client and to change some parameters.

Since the applications are the reason for your problems, you should ask at the respective project forum for help.

If the cooler stops running, are there any tasks left to compute anyway?

That is one block! Just enter "Computing allowed every day between hours of 16:00 and 8:00".

Just lunch is not covered by that ;-)

I'm unable to find a way to do either of these under either the SETI@home website Edit Computing Preferences or the BOINC Manager Options. Can you provide specific directions please?

As Claggy already mentioned:
You might want to select 'AstroPulse v6: no' in your Setiathome Project preferences...
you'll have to edit the SETI@home preferences, not the computing preferences.

Perhaps you should try to set your preferences to "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use? yes" as a compromise between running always (on the CPU) and avoiding performance problems, as I think those stem from using your (rather weak) GPU for computations.

Recently, just before the move anyway, they have not stopped the upload and download servers, just the website seems to be off.

The upload and download servers don't need database access. That's done by the scheduler and reporting process respectively.
