I have in the past had good results from the infernal revenue but their recent moves to try and make everyone do everything online make me suspect it would not be as easy here in UK now.

Got to the fora after a couple of attempts. still no hard news on a return of ARP which is my main reason for crunching WCG when CPDN has no work.

Glory: Crucial scanning tool works in WINE. Last time I tried it it didn't though admittedly that was over a decade ago.

I will see if I can track down some more specific data on when it happens. Without a bit more than the current example opening a ticket will be particularly helpful. Not surprised BOINC tasks does the same as the manager just reports what the client tells it.

The estimated time of completion column if enabled in the latest BOINC manager is interesting to say the least. On one task, the estimated time of completion has already passed and yet it keeps getting earlier! I might be un-enabling it if I start seeing that behaviour on a regular basis!

And about 250 of the held back packages just got updated this morning. Something to do with the impending release of 24.04?

thanks, I've had BOINC installed for a very long time (since around the time that SETI started), should I re-install it? or is there a way to adjust that? I suppose I could just move the executable and whatever else I find to the other drive, will that work?
I am a bit rusty on that. I would finish any current work, uninstall and then do a fresh install choosing the custom install option. There may be an easier or quicker way to do it but having defenestrated over 20 years ago and been with Linux ever since, I haven't done a custom install recently enough to be sure.

Problem: How to specify what disk to use, the Disk menu allows specifying how much, I installed a specific disk (drive V in my case) for BOINC and associated programs and projects to use.

From memory, if you check the box for a customised installation as opposed to the default installation you can then choose the drive where you want stuff to go.

Or just install Noble alongside your existing installation instead of upgrading in place.
This is a clean install in a VM from about three weeks ago. At the moment waiting for unattended upgrade to release the cache lock.

I think 411 packages not to upgrade is a new record for me.
Now up to 500 not to upgrade on noble. I won't force them as I don't know enough to work out what might break!
13) Message boards : Projects : Will BOINC projects use Neural Processing Unit (NPUs) in AI ready computers? (Message 113874)
Posted 15 days ago by Profile Dave
Post:
I would be surprised if they are not used eventually. Not sure what needs to happen on the BOINC side if anything to allow this though. It will also need programmers at the projects with the required skill set to make use of NPUs. The lack of the required skill set is the main reason many projects don't use GPUs yet.

Grumble: Leicester Forrest East services, GridServe chargers all out of action. Three miles off motorway a junction or so down fuuse chargers lie about charging speed. Instead of 22KWH charger was more like 7.5 the same as a home charging setup. Took over an hour to charge enough to get to next rapid charger. There Instavolt did the job. Ten minutes to get enough charge for the remaining distance home with over 30 miles worth of charge remaining. I can see why so many people say charging infrastructure is not fit for purpose yet. #betterplanningnexttime.

Glory: Just noticed that when as moderator I move posts to a more appropriate part of the CPDN board to make a thread easier to read, the section of the forum I have moved them to updates to the time of the last of those posts. Probably has always done this and I haven't noticed before.

And back to the same problems again. Rinse and repeat.....
Forums page opened up right away from link in manager but going to individual forum for ARP was slow. Still work seems to be downloading and reporting without issue.

BOINC servers will normally only refuse to send new tasks to a computer which is returning work late or with errors.
My impression is that the code to stop or slow down work to problem machines is only implemented by some projects. I don't suppose there is a list detailing which do and which don't anywhere?

Have you checked the event log. From the menu Tools>event log?

Right now if I update WCG I get the following message in the event log

Thu 28 Mar 2024 20:34:11 GMT | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Mapping Cancer Markers
With similar messages for the other task typed I have allowed on their website.

You can always try some other projects to confirm it is WCG and not your setup. (Not Climateprediction.net as they currently have no work available though that might change later this week.)

You don't say anything about what platform you are using as with a few projects that can affect work availability.
