This new model of Raspberry Pi is said to have 6x the power of the previous model and not use any extra power.

Highlights are:
A new quad core 900 Mhz CPU
1 GB of LPDDR2 RAM
Uses same layout as Raspberry Pi Model B+ so cases and accessories should still work.

Anyone have thoughts on using this new model? I know any I get my hands on will be bumped up to 1 Ghz.

Mine arrived today, the micro SDCard will arrive tomorrow.

I'll be flashing Snappy Ubuntu Core alpha-02 onto it, Building Boinc, then a Seti app, all while crunching on Einstein and Albert.

and Raspbian later.

Hi Claggy,

just curious if you managed to get Raspberry PI 2 working with Boinc.

I am interested in getting a Raspberry PI 2 and run worldcommunitygrid on it.

Thanks!

I actually put Raspbian on it, Compiled Boinc 7.2.47 for it, Attached to Einstein, Albert, Seti and Seti Beta, have run work from Einstein, Albert and Seti Beta on it, Seti Beta being with an app compiled by myself,

The repository Boinc 7.0.27 should work too, But it's open to question whether that detects Neon support, So you may not get Neon apps.

It doesn't.

7.4.23 in the Jessie repo does.

Glaggy, you leave your Pi at stock clock or did you OC it? I was thinking once I get my hands on mine I would OC it to 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz but I'm not sure how stable pushing it to 1.2Ghz would be. And yes I will add heat sinks to the 2 heat generating chips.

Stock Clock at the Moment, only got one heatsink on it at the moment, awaiting a delivery of others.

Question, how well do the Raspberry Pi 2s do at crunching work units? Just wondering what the time is to complete?

Oc'ed (to 1Ghz) about 15 hours per Einstein BRP4 work unit with the fft wisdom file.

Seti varies quite a bit. Vlar work units can take up to 60 hours, normal angle range work units can be around 20-30 hours for Multibeam work units.

Thank you very much for the information. I have ordered one we shall see how this goes. Going to make it a science experiment and run it of a 12volt solar battery bank. I have the bank for other experiments. Thanks again

Low power cutoff device is definitely something to look at thanks for the idea.

I previously used some Belkin dual USB chargers that worked fine with the B and B+ but as soon as I used them on the Pi2 they were repeatedly crashing. I changed back to the switch mode USB power bricks that I got originally and the Pi2 was happy. It seems the power supply side of the Pi2 is less flexible than the earlier models.

Have not hooked it up to the rack yet. But I can't get any work units from Seti. It says the project does not support my arm-unknown-linux-gnueabihf which is Raspian. But I can get and run work units and run Einstein@home. :-(

Claggy was working on that. You can PM him and he may email you the ARM v7 app. I know he managed to get some changes checked in so you might be able to do a sudo apt-get install boinc-app-seti and pick up the new one, but I suspect it will be the old (broken) one.

You have to run it under the anon platform mechanism as there is no stock app for the Pi2.

I am not sure if Claggy is happy to share the version he did or not. They might release it as a stock app on Seti.

Oh and vlar tasks seem to take about 3 times longer so don't panic if you get one as they can take 60 hours.

I've given him links to the two apps, he just needs an app_info.xml now, I don't have time right now.
