I have a problem with the systems freezing for short periods of time...it does it regularly for the whole system. I have 2 identical machines...one with 2000 and one with XP and they both do it with BOINC running but the XP one freezes less often and for shorter periods of time. When I say 'periods of time' I am talking about literally a second or less but its definitely noticable when your trying to move your mouse across the screen and it sticks for a second or the program you are using becomes unresponsive for a second. It happens on both my Intel and AMD systems as well but its less severe on the AMD ones.

I want to have this program transparent...not virtually but totally. I would like to install BOINC on some machines at work but the one I tested it on isn't working out well because those hiccups are annoying the users big time. It doesn't matter how I have it installed either...service...multi user...single user...it happens on all.

Sounds like a swapping problem.

How much physical RAM?
CPU specs?
MB specs?
RAM specs?
Version of BOINC?
What projects are you running?

There is a BOINC preference for not running the science app when the user is active. Works a treat (with later versions of BOINC) ....

Cheers,
Gary.

It might be the application, and not BOINC. I run SETI classic on my home machine and I do get those pesky mini freezes. I have not associated them with SETI appiclation, but I will check it out.

Since I do not run BOINC at home, then my freezes do not result from BOINC. But if we are both running SETI applications, then that application could be causing the problem.
