Through Windows update, I updated the adapter for my Nvidia GT 740m, and after that my PrimeGrid tasks that ran on the GPU were reporting that the only usable GPU was an emulator, and so I ended up with 4 erred tasks in a row. I turned my computer off and turned it back on the next day, and now it's not recognising the GPU. My computer recognises the Nvidia GPU, but now BOINC gives this: (my computer also has an Intel GPU)

How do I get BOINC to recognise the nvidia GPU again?
EDIT: I should mention I'm using Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Get your driver updates from the Nvidia website, not Microsoft or Windows Update.

Install drivers from Nvidia.com, the ones that come from Windows update don't come with Cuda, OpenCL, OpenGL support, etc.

Thanks guys, will do in the future. Through Device Manager I found out that the update hadn't completely applied itself, so another restart was what I needed to do, and now it's working again. :D

I didn't think Windows Update managed your drivers. I thought that was all up to the user anyway.

Drivers for certain devices will show up in the "recommended updates" section; if you have "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked in Windows Update settings, then you'll be getting them without realizing it.

I'm not sure what criteria is used to determine which drivers are "recommended" versus "optional", because some will be labeled as optional and thus won't be affected by the settings problem above.

Oh, ok. I normally use IObit Driver Booster to update all those.
