Through Windows update, I updated the adapter for my Nvidia GT 740m, and after that my PrimeGrid tasks that ran on the GPU were reporting that the only usable GPU was an emulator, and so I ended up with 4 erred tasks in a row. I turned my computer off and turned it back on the next day, and now it's not recognising the GPU. My computer recognises the Nvidia GPU, but now BOINC gives this: (my computer also has an Intel GPU) 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.2.42 for windows_x86_64 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | Running under account <retracted> 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | OpenCL: Intel GPU 0: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 (driver version 10.18.10.3345, device version OpenCL 1.2, 1784MB, 1784MB available, 80 GFLOPS peak) 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Intel(R) Corporation, driver version 3.0.1.10878, device version OpenCL 1.2 (Build 76413)) 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | app version refers to missing GPU type NVIDIA 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | SETI@home | Application uses missing NVIDIA GPU 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | app version refers to missing GPU type NVIDIA 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | SETI@home | Application uses missing NVIDIA GPU 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | | app version refers to missing GPU type NVIDIA 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | PrimeGrid | Application uses missing NVIDIA GPU 10/08/2014 2:32:27 PM | PrimeGrid | Missing coprocessor for task pps_sr2sieve_75738688_1 How do I get BOINC to recognise the nvidia GPU again? EDIT: I should mention I'm using Windows 8.1 64-bit. |

Get your driver updates from the Nvidia website, not Microsoft or Windows Update. |

Through Windows update, I updated the adapter for my Nvidia GT 740m, and after that my PrimeGrid tasks that ran on the GPU were reporting that the only usable GPU was an emulator, Install drivers from Nvidia.com, the ones that come from Windows update don't come with Cuda, OpenCL, OpenGL support, etc. Claggy |

Thanks guys, will do in the future. Through Device Manager I found out that the update hadn't completely applied itself, so another restart was what I needed to do, and now it's working again. :D |

Get your driver updates from the Nvidia website, not Microsoft or Windows Update. I didn't think Windows Update managed your drivers. I thought that was all up to the user anyway. |

I didn't think Windows Update managed your drivers. I thought that was all up to the user anyway. Drivers for certain devices will show up in the "recommended updates" section; if you have "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked in Windows Update settings, then you'll be getting them without realizing it. I'm not sure what criteria is used to determine which drivers are "recommended" versus "optional", because some will be labeled as optional and thus won't be affected by the settings problem above. I didn't think Windows Update managed your drivers. I thought that was all up to the user anyway. Oh, ok. I normally use IObit Driver Booster to update all those. |
