i donate to boinc projects. one of my cpu's is an intel prescott 3.2Ghz. running xp. this is seen by boinc as 2 cpu's. i am sure this is a one processor system.

i tried, i can do 2 wu's at the time. donating to more projects and wu's having different crunch times it is very hard to find out what is the most efficient way to donate.

so my question is: do i donate more efficient by doing one wu at once or 2 wu's?

an explanation why 1 or 2 wu's would be much appreciated.

Ok I have both p4 30 Ht and 840 ee Ht

P4 non Ht does one WU in 1 hr
P4 ht 2 WUs in 1 1/2 hrs

P4 non Ht takes 2 hrs to do 2 so I am up a half hr.

Basically the same with my 840
Non HT takes 1 hr for 2
Ht takes 1 1/2 hrs for 4
non Ht takes 2 hrs to do 4

Still up that half hr.....

Ht wins

Mileage will vary with other projects.....

"HyperThreading" - the Prescott can run two programs at the same time, so to BOINC it looks like two CPUs. It is not truly two cores, so running two WUs at a time isn't twice as fast, but it does gain you something like 40 to 70%. The highest gain is seen if you run two projects; if your "connect to every" preference is set low enough (something like 0.01) then most of the time you will have one project running on each logical CPU. Running two WUs from the same project is still faster than one at a time, but they can conflict with each other, when they both try to do something that the chip can only do sequentially; the penalty seems to be about 5-10%, at least for SETI.
