I know that I can tell BOINC Manager to not startup with Windows by going to the Tools -> Options -> uncheck Run Manager at login?, but this setting only works for the account that I'm signed in to. I want to set BOINC up so that it runs as a service (I know how to do that) and have all accounts NOT run the manager at startup. (note the BOINC client will still run since it is a separate process from the BOINC Manager) My intent is to prevent anyone from clicking on the colorful icon and then changing settings without consulting me first.

Does anyone know how to do this easily?

(I'm looking for both XP and Windows 7 if there happens to be a difference in the process)

As far as I know, it can be done by logging in to the accounts one by one and telling BOINC Manager not to start at login. Or maybe that you can edit the DisableAutoStart key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Manager to go from 0 to 1 and that that will do it.

I will have to try the second option, because I really don't want to have to go and change the setting every time a profile gets created. Thanks for the info.

Well...after looking in my XP virtual machine where I had already disabled it in the primary account. It shows that key already set to 1.

I logged into my secondary account for testing this issue and of course in the new account it is set to 0. This still doesn't help. I would like the option of not launching the BOINC manager from all accounts including any new accounts created.

Any new accounts created after BOINC was installed will not start BOINC Manager, as far as I know, unless you reinstall BOINC. But thinking about that, did you uncheck the "Allow all users on this computer to control BOINC" in the installer? As enabling that sets the startup setting for BOINC Manager for all those accounts.

Hmm...I think you may have something there. I did check to allow users to modify BOINC IIRC. Since it runs as a service, it starts on all accounts. I will uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes the issue. Again, thanks. :)

This is what it was. It is just amazing how repetition makes you over look the simplest of things. The BOINC Manager icon does not load at startup on the other accounts now but BOINC.exe still does as desired. Thanks for the help Ageless.
