Hello,

Upon launching the installer on my MacBook 4,1 running 10.6.8, the installer crashes with the following error in console:
Job appears to have crashed: Bus error

Any similar behavior under OS X? BOINC 7.0.65 installs just fine.

A bus error is a fault raised by hardware, notifying an operating system (OS) that a process is trying to access memory that the CPU cannot physically address: an invalid address for the address bus, hence the name. In modern use on most architectures these are much rarer than segmentation faults, which occur primarily due to memory access violations: problems in the logical address or permissions.

Sounds to me like you have a corrupt installer on your hands. Try to download it once more, and if given the option, save it to a different location.

Corrupted installer, that crossed my mind, did not download it again, though. Will try it later today.

BOINC 7.2.42 installer runs fine on an iMac 11,1 running 10.8.5. Could be something wrong with the other host, although I never had any issues. Will try a later build and see how it goes. If you need any additional information on the matter, please post.

Well, therefore, try to download it to another location, just in case it's a problem with the disk space it wants to save the file to. Or you can try to put the working installer from the other system onto a USB thumb-stick and, after having it plugged into the problem system, install from there.

OK, tried numerous tricks, 7.2.42 installer still crashes. Downloaded 7.2.39 and it too crashes. Anything I could try?

I found a similar issue, though under Mavericks. Crash report is similar to mine and quite generic, I could add...

Finally managed to install 7.2.42 the "hard way", by dragging ~/Downloads/boinc_7.2.42_macOSX_i686/BOINC\ Installer.app/Contents/Resources/BOINC.pkg over /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and the installation completed succesfully, except that BOINCmanager did not start automatically after installation.

Don't know what's wrong, but it seems like the BOINCinstaller does not properly start the Apple installer on this system.
