I am very new ( 3 days) and inexperienced. I'm not at all familiar with grid computing or distributed applications.
I'm running a MacBook Pro 2.8 i7 16 gigs of ram latest version of Mavericks I've got it setup to run all the time except when I need the resources to run something I've allotted 50 gigs hard drive space & 75% of page file ie swap space. No limitations otherwise. I am currently signed up for these projects.

Out of these only four actually show work done. Its run SETI stuff but shows no work done under projects
When I look under tasks I have about 50+ ready to report under the 4 that actually have work done. I am not looking for "credit".
I just want any advice/help to run it as efficently as possible. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

You have made far too much projects active. This way there is a big chance your computer will never finish a work unit (wu) before expiration date.
So make all but one projects inactive.
More active projects does not mean more efficiency, it’s just the other way around.

What are your cache settings in number of days? (both settings), and which Boinc version?

There are two cache settings measured in number of days, the first is the minimum amount, It also specifies how many days days of internet loss you're going to have, meaning any work has to be done that many days before deadline too,
So a 5 day setting means you'll take 5 days to get around to the bottom of the cache, and you're got to report it 5 days early, not a problem for a project with a 30 day deadline, but it is with a project with a 3 day deadline,
do the maths on that one, you're got to report the work before it's sent,

the second setting is the maximum amount, Boinc 7 will first ask for the minimum plus maximum amount, then won't ask for work again until the amount of work in the cache drops below the minimum amount,
so a very small should be used otherwise there will be a delay in reporting/asking for work.

There is no problem with having a lot of projects as long as you don't run massive cache settings, Boinc will only get enough work to satisfy those settings, something like 1 + 0 should be suitable (assuming Boinc 7.x.x)
if any work is likely to be late, then Boinc will switch to doing those tasks first (aka High Priority mode, this just means they are before other tasks, there is no priority change),
if anyone is daft enough to try and run a 10 day cache with projects with deadlines with only a few days then of cause Boinc might run into problems, but that is a operator/project misconfiguration problem rather than a problem with Boinc.

You would do best to immediately upgrade to BOINC 7.2.39, as this version will (automatically) report all ready to report results to the server every hour, instead of every 24 hours - or every X amount of hours set in the minimum amount of work requested mark.

For example; I know that LHC@Home only supports Windows and Linux, and ClimatePrediction doesn't seem to have any work available.

You won't get work from all your projects all the time, if the project with the highest priority for work gets work it'll likely fill your cache, no need to go and ask for work for the rest of your projects as the cache is already full,
It will switch around in time.

Thanks for the info. I removed the LHC@home from my project list on BAM & updated but it still shows up on BOINC project list will that sort it self out or is there a way I can remove it from that list also ?

I already removed them from BAM but they are still on my projects BOINC manager I can suspend projects but the remove tab is not available.

You'll have to wait until your hosts have contacted BAM! before the projects are removed from them too.

In the menubar with the rest of them... Although if you're in the simple view (default) you won't get the necessary command. You'll want to select View > Advanced View to see the option for manual account manager synchronization.
