I was having problems after the recent windows 7 pro x64 update and it was crashing BOINC when left to run over night. I tried to repair the installation to see if that would correct it and now can't run BOINC at all. I get the error message:

error 1402.could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Components\11E9462B023601745B8C91228548649E\D8ADEEA879A70CD4CAEB045BA54799D2.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I have full domain administrator privileges and get this error on repair and removal of the program.

what do i do to fix this ??

There's an independent FAQ service (not connected to the official BOINC developers) usually available at http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/, but the site doesn't appear to be available tonight.

This problem is usually caused by problems accessing the old boinc.msi file - used by the Windows msiexec to install the old version, and required again to UNinstall the old version, as part of the upgrade process.

A number of alternatives are covered in the FAQ - two of the simplest to describe are:

1) Try to re-install the previous version, to re-make the missing keys and re-cache the msi file.
2) Perform an msi cleanup to remove traces of the old version of BOINC from the msi database.

I was running the latest version 7.2.33 without issue and then the windows update last week caused the error and the program not to work. using the same installer does not repair, remove or allow reinstall.

It is not a BOINC error, but a Windows one. It's a problem with the Windows registry permissions that got corrupted. See this thread at Microsoft Answers, or this write-up for possible fixes.
