CPDN BOINC websites are inaccessible, with a 'forbidden' access error message.

Administrators are aware, and say:

There is a wider problem with the vm infrastructure here.
I have not had details yet, but many of our services will be affected.

Edit - they seem to be back, for now.

There is a big problem developing with MindModeling@Home (Beta) !!!

They are apparently trying to switch to a new machine for at least part of the project and are starting to use links to the url http://192.168.108.111 for portions of the website. The instructions for joining the project are also saying

Join MindModeling@Home (Beta)

Read our rules and policies
Download BOINC.
When prompted, enter
http://192.168.108.111/

If you are already a member, you get the following in your project responses

11/7/2013 11:17:32 AM | MindModeling@Beta_WSU | You used the wrong URL for this project. When convenient, remove this project, then add http://192.168.108.111/

Also, downloads are starting to fail (probably uploads will also fail).

This url will NOT work over the internet. The subnet 192.168.x.x is reserved as a private address for local networks. You can find info on this in rfc1918 (Address Allocation for Private Internets) at

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1918

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the
following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:

10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

They need to setup the change at their router.

edit: I've tried to contact them but I don't know if they will see the message because I used the old url since the new one won't work.

So what if you try to email either the UDRI or WSU, since Mondmodeling states MindModeling@Home (Beta) is based in Dayton, OH at the University of Dayton Research Institute and Wright State University? Perhaps that they've set up for an internal (University only) beta.

Correct, mindmodeling_WSU is only for internal testing.

Hi.
FightMalaria@Home is since two days down, no connection to the project possible. The project had some problems with the servers in the last weeks, much of "Error while downloading".

This can take some days...

Greetings,
Aurel

Asteroids is down for an unannounced server upgrade...
Server upgrade

I am very sorry that project is unavailable. I completely forgot to announce it. There is a server upgrade being performed. Unfortunatelly it will take about 2 days because of disk array reconstruction. Server should be on-line on tuesday 2th or wednesday 3th of December.

Climate@Home is no more. The project has been down since Dec. 6. I've finally found some news about it at https://modelingguru.nasa.gov/community/atmospheric/boinc:

The Climate@Home project is no longer active. It was a pilot project to enable distributed computing of climate modeling, allowing the general public to share their home PC's power to run a segment of NASA's climate simulations, returning the results as they are completed.

Even the web portal is gone, and the forum is inaccessible. Although we were supposed to get new work units following several tries to deliver some that worked, they've apparently given up.

For those interested in using their computers to help with climate research, climateprediction.net appears to be the only BOINC option remaining.

What a shame. Although I often wondered why they started it with all the work that CPDN is doing.

Probably means climate@home which is winding down. There are still some work units being processed but no new ones going out.

Climate@Home is back online as of Dec. 12. New work units were released then. There is no news in that forum about what happened or why the site was down for so long. There is no explanation about the announcement on the NASA web site that the project was dead.

Strange I never saw any of those work units. I was monitoring daily and never saw any available in Server Status. Must have been really quick.

It looks like there may have been only a couple of dozen work units distributed, so it wouldn't be surprising if you didn't get any of them. This is a small project managed by a grad student, Kai, who barely has time to shower in the morning, much less assemble work units (as you probably know, we've had problems with misconfigured work units recently). Hopefully, since this is a holiday break, he'll have more time.

Kai says that he's updating the software to version 14, and he'll have new work units available in a couple of days.
