I installed BOINC 7.0.64 Yesterday. Previously I used 7.0.28. It now appears processing just stops. But my Resource Monitor still indicates CPU usage at 54%. I run an AMD FX-8350 with 16 GB memory & Win7 Pro SP-1 64-bit. Video is MSI GTX580 with driver version 320.49 which is not being used for GPU processing. I only run CPU jobs on 4 cores for E@H. This happened 3 times yesterday after I installed 7.0.64. Is this a known problem? If necessary, I can reinstall 7.0.28, which always seemed to run properly, but I like to remain current with software whenever possible. Another thing I remember is that if I stopped running be closing down BOINC and restarting it the timers begin displaying again and they may be beyond where they stopped so it appears it is just the time display that stops working while processing may have continued.

I've provided the Event Log from startup this morning. So far so good today.

TIA Dave

When the numbers have progressed beyond the point where you saw them, the processing didn't stop. Are you sure it's not a screen saver that makes a screen shot of the background (and anything open on it)?

I never had a problem tearing through data until I got windows 8. My completions have flatlined. When I go to "tasks", the numbers start turning. However, as soon as the screensaver cuts in at about 3 minutes, no further task processing occurs. I have checked the "Time remaining" to verify this. I have adjusted Windows Firewall to allow Boinc, but I'm not getting anywhere. What do you recommend? I've done about 1.7 million bundles of data over a few years and I would like to continue.

As much as there is a function to start computing when computer is idle, there's also a function/setting [web-site profiles only to make it easy], to stop computing when the system is idle. Maybe that's the one kicking in.

When mentioning W8, my "bad" first learning point was to *NOT* install under a MS account, but a local user! Good old MS would unload BOINC on log-out or hotswapping between accounts, lose everything and start fresh again on sign-in, or recover whatever lost tasks there were to recover from the projects.

How would one inactivate the "stop computing" function?

How would one inactivate the "stop computing" function?

By going to your Account page on your favourite project, then the Computing Preferences page, and either clicking the 'Restore Defaults' button at the bottom left (if it has it),
Or by setting the following to nothing: 'Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last --- minutes'

Under computing preferences, which was a drop down menu, I found "push clear to restore web-based settings(except exclusive apps)" which I've done. I'll give it 24 hours and see how it goes.I couldn't find the "Suspend work if..." which sounds like it might be the culprit. I have the 7.0.64 version of BOINC, if that is any help. Let's see what happens!

Of course you couldn't find it. It only exists (as mentioned before) in the web-based settings, not in the local preferences where you've been looking.

Certainly wasn't mentioned by you. Do you think you could season your great wisdom with a little more courtesy? We are, after all, united in the pursuit of learning, are we not?

I just found my old post. I never use a screen saver. However, the problem has gone away. I don't have a clue how it could have cure itself. Thanks for your reply Jord
