Message 48544 - Posted: 7 Apr 2013, 6:30:29 UTC

I am running 7.0.28 or whatever the current version is.

I noticed that several times now when I start using my computer again when Boinc just starts using the computer it doesn't properly shut down its usage like it should. All the info says it does but my gpu and cpu both are still peaked usage and if I look at the Star Task Manager it is Boinc programs that are stressing the system. Even putting it in sleep mode doesn't stop it. I have to use my computer in its barely usable state for several minutes. I do have BOINC setup to wait 3 minutes before it tries to use the computer. So I am thinking perhaps that is where it is getting confused? Somehow the 3 minutes wait is being applied to while its using the computer as well as the wait time till it's supposed to use the computer?

It seems to only do this when I start using the computer within 30 seconds or so of BOINC starting to use the computer. If I leave BOINC running all night and try to use my computer in the morning everything works fine. Just if I get up to get a drink or restroom and come back does this issue pop up.

I used to use BOINC a lot about 2 years ago. Worked beautifully then, used to set it to run while I worked on my computer. Always worked great with no slow down or anything. This new version 7 sucks. I had to disable BOINC useage at anytime while I am using it. It seems to have priority issues now.

Specs:
Windows 7 x64
4GB Ram
C2D E6600

Thanks for any insight on how to fix this issue or if its a bug where to report it.

I'm having the same problem with Windows XP 32-bit.

I'm going to have to kill BOINC until the problem is fixed.

I'm having the same problem with Windows XP 32-bit.

I'm going to have to kill BOINC until the problem is fixed.

What Boinc version is this on?

Does this host have any GPUs?

What project's applications aren't suspending?

What is the position of the Activity Menu selections?

What are your Computing Preferences set to?

Please post your Boinc startup from the Event Log, and where Boinc suspends the apps.

I'm using the latest version, downloaded today 7.0.64. I couldn't figure out what was the problem (PROFOUND mouse lag) until I opened up MS Process Explorer and found that SETI was still running when I started using the computer and it would stay running until I killed it within Process Explorer. When I killed it, the computer began to run smoothly again.

I have GPU (Nvidia 9800).

I have the activity menu selections to run only per the preferences settings.

The Computing Preferences were set as follows:

processor usage

Unchecked "while computer is on batteries"
Unchecked "while computer is use"

Not sure if you want the whole log but here it is:

Thanks in advance. It really is quite a change for the app to run this way but it's been happening for a couple of weeks now at least.

I just figured out that BOINC was the culprit vis sleuthing with Process Explorer.

Which Setiathome GPU app is running when the mouse is laggy? the 6.09 Cuda23 MB app, or the 6.04 OpenCL Astropulse app? i suspect only the 6.04 OpenCL AP app.

Does the Lagginess dissappear if you set GPU usage to Suspend in the Activity menu?

CPU apps run at idle priority and shouldn't cause any lagginess, except maybe on the oldest of systems.

The above messages show you that BOINC is stopping when the computer is in use by something else non-BOINC (the CPU is busy message), or when you want to use the computer (the computer is in use messages).

That the science application(s) do not stop is NOT a BOINC problem, but a project problem. So you really have to go find a thread at Seti about the same problem and complain in there. There are a couple over there, one in the Windows and one in the GPU forum, and it's all about the Astropulse application not stopping when BOINC tells it to.

So, out of our hands.

Message 49480 - Posted: 3 Jun 2013, 1:18:14 UTC - in response to Message 49359.

I just experienced another round of BOINC eating my breakfast.

Both Rosetta and Seti continued to run when I resumed using my computer, rendering it useless.

When I killed those processes, everything was fine.

Should I take it up with both the Rosetta and Seti folks?
