The first post to say
Project down for maintenance.

Let the stampede begin.

I get the feeling some of them never left

Today's outage is only the second since the database reorg. Started as late as last week's. Hunch that it will be as short as the last. If next week's repeats the same, I will state that this is the new "norm" for outages.

The outrage may been demoted to an outage and it seems no one has noticed.

Missed it. A post from a mobile device. Took its own sweet time to connect.

Anybody have any idea why Google Chrome is a such a memory hog? I only have three windows of it open. What does the (17) mean? Likewise, I have AOL open, but why the (12)? I'm not doing anything except reading email and have a couple websites like BOINC and APOD open.

My guess is that it caches a lot.

the (17) and (12) are likely part of the version numbers.

as to why it is a memory hog, it has a lot of data to capture and report back to mother google

real answer, not written to be efficient.

Had same issue. Solutions are available on the net but it was quicker to ditch it.

If you click the arrow next to Google Chrome it will show the instances running and how much memory, disk and CPU each is using.

I did look this up once but forget the exact reason why it opens a 2 or 3 instances per open tab

PS If you really want to know what is going on you could always download Microsoft Process Explorer

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer
Depends if you really really want to know!!!

Well, as long as it appears to be a common thing, I'm not going to worry about it. It just made me wonder if something was wrong.
