Howdy,

I mainly run SETI@home and World Community Grid. I use my computer for games as well, so I need to keep the current drivers. I've been running a commercial release of Windows 8 Professional 64-bit for about a month now.

I've read and seen numerous posts about the issues with Kepler and BOINC, and tried the "fixes" (except for the installing older drivers bit) with limited success. I still get a lot of errors when I can get projects to run. Most the time, however, the projects just won't run nor download. Prime95 and other "burn in" programs indicate no issues with my CPU. MSI Kombuster and other GPU benchmarks indicate no errors with my GPU. Though I've not retested the RAM in the last month, it too was thoroughly tested less than 3 months ago.

I have a well tested and burned in Core i5 at 4.4GHz and two Geforce 670 GTX cards in SLI that I'd love to give idle cycles to, but considering that there's no simple way to have BOINC easily work (like it used to in WinXP and Win7 days prior to getting my kepler based GPUs), I've all but given up on BOINC.

I'm guessing BOINC is loosing a LOT of potential users due to the application no longer being essentially "install then go." I really hope the issues with Win8 and the NVIDIA 600 series will be addressed by the developers quickly in the newer installation packages.

I want to get back to BOINCing. Most users won't want to edit config files. If editing config files doesn't solve the problems (it hasn't for me), then even more dedicated users will step away, and less computing will be done.

Please fix these problems so I can get BOINCing again. As it is now, if I uninstall and reinstall BOINC... tasks will not download nor run. It just sits there doing nothing. The few times I have managed to get tasks to DL, they often error out. This doesn't happen on my other non-600 series computers running windows 7 or windows xp. They're also not nearly as powerful as my main system.

This is the Boinc Development website, Not a Project website, the Boinc developers don't produce apps for projects, the projects do,

For Setiathome GTX6xx problems see the workarond in the NVidia driver problems which cause computation errors thread in Number Crunching at the Setiathome project.

I know this is just anecdotal, but my Windows 7 x64 machine runs just fine without any messing around. I have a GTX 680 and run Seti and Collatz.

I have since installed optimized apps for both projects, but it worked fine with stock apps too.

Perhaps there is something going on on your end or there's some sort of Windows 8 issue, but I don't think it's a Kepler/Boinc problem.
