Worked just fine for many years with 3 projects set to run in sequence. But just recently I have one project (Rosetta) apparently hogging all the activity as no other project shows any downloaded tasks and cannot download new tasks due to 'insufficient disk space' being available.

However, the disk view shows that the other projects DO have space allotted (and apparently filled?), although no allotted free space remains to be seen and one of those projects (ClimatePrediction) actually has considerably more 'used' space than the running project.

So what is going wrong? And is there a way to break the deadlock and resume activity for all 3 projects - climate prediction, rosetta and SETI?

It seems that there is space taken up by project tasks but those tasks do not show up in the Task lists or in the Transfer lists and so are invisible. Can I reactivate them? Can I identify the files and delete them? Or is there some other resolution to hand.

I guess that this has occurred when new versions of BOINC have been installed after problems occurring in the past and contact with old files has been lost somehow.

Look forward to the suggestions.

Complete what tasks you have at climate prediction, then reset the project, i think it is known to not clear out it's old files.

Or increase the amount of disk space allocated, i have mine set at 100Gb, CPDN is only using ~1Gig at the moment, while Seti is 2Gig, Seti Beta 666Mb, and Einstein 638Mb.

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately the problem lies in the fact that those ClimatePrediction projects do not show in either the Tasks or Transfer lists. So I cannot 'finish' them as the application doesn't appear to see them at all, even though they must be clogging up the allotted disk space.

If what you say is true, that this particular project doesn't clear out old tasks, then that might be the root issue and I guess I could just delete all or some of what is in that data folder. But I'm concerned that for some reason the data has been disconnected from the projects and I'll be deleting unfinished but live tasks.

ClimatePrediction creates a separate folder (and several sub-folders) within the main climateprediction.net project folder, for each live model. Each folder is named the same as the model it is supporting, and they can grow very large - my hadcm3n_o2ai_2020_40_007956542 folder contains 1.36GB.

They should be, and in general are, deleted when the model completes successfully. The problems come when models fail with an error part way through their run - that's when the folders get orphaned.

Double-check whether you have any live tasks on your system - check both BOINC Manager (paying attention to the show active/all tasks toggle button), and the tasks listed for that computer on your account page at the CPDN website. Once you're sure they're not active, delete any left-over model folders within the climateprediction.net project folder. Don't delete any individual files (even .zip or .gz files, which may be displayed as folders) - they are kept deliberately, as many of them can be re-used by another model.

Thanks for that particular advice. It is similar to the methodology I'd begun to work out for myself. None of the projects could be made to show up in the task, transfer windows or elsewhere, so I deleted them as advised and have retained the individual files and compressed files. In my case the climateprediction project folder was well over 3Gb in size.

There are 2 other folders: tfx; gfx; which don't appear to be projects, so I've left those in place at the moment. They are only about 2Mb in size anyway.

I have also decided to move my BOINC Data folder off my C drive and on to another which allows it to be enlarged if needed to accept the larger task files which seem to be commoner today.

So I shall now watch and monitor how things go forward - hopefully with no glitches.

Thanks to all.
