I wish you'd make your BOINC Manager, and Client programs to have larger text for those who can't easily read the tiny text used presently. I have trouble with the tiny text, and have made many requests that you make your BOINC GUI's "Graphic User Interface" to be made Handicapped User Accessible. I have suggested that in your BOINC Manager program that you'd make it so I can, Click a button, and or use a HOT-KEY to Show-Hide the Navigation-Bar shown on the Left of the GUI, and you would also make the text within the GUI larger preferably user re-sizable, as this would allow for all to more easily use your programs. You could also give an option to Automatically Hide the Navigation-Bar after a set amount of time, to allow for the ability to read the lines of information shown in each area of the GUI more easily. The GUI Interface text could either be user re-sizable or made larger than at present. Re-sizable text, and for the rest of the GUI's would be better. I also ask that you do these in the BOINC Client, and other interfaces used for BOINC projects. P.S. I additionally ask that you will modify your Web pages to cause information to be able to re-flow allowing easier viewing if a user like myself uses a larger font setting for viewing your pages. This text entry box for example isn't Handicapped User Accessible, as when I make the text box larger by re-sizing the page within my browser, the text doesn't word wrap, and the window doesn't re-size Left to Right to stay within my screen area Left to Right. Making need for Left to Right scrolling to read each line. The window should stay in my screen viewable area and allow the text to wrap to the window. The repeated Left to Right scrolling to read each line of text is a bit painful. Up and down scrolling of a page to read it is normal. This entire block of text if allowed to wrap to a re-sizable window that would allow for the greater accessibility without the extra pain. This box is Left to Right already outside of my screen boundaries, and likewise for text Left to Right. Thank You in Advance for making your BOINC GUI's to be more accessible for those of us that can't easily read them.
Please pardon any typo's. I'm having trouble hitting the correct keys. I am using a spell-checker, but if I spell a word correctly even if it's the wrong word. It'll still be used if I don't see it first. Thank You for Your Time. Lightsttn1

That's a function of the browser, not a function of the pages. In Firefox for instance, one can resize the text box by grabbing the right lower corner and pulling it down- and outwards. The text will then auto-wrap to the new size.

So if you browser isn't doing this, then you may want to look into getting another browser.

As for the rest of the request, I will forward it to the developers. However, do know that the new BOINC 7.0 simple view can now completely be read by screen readers. The advanced view could already be read by screen readers. Just for information.

I tried to do the drag to re-size the text entry box. It didn't work. I tried to click-and drag the Right lower corner. I even tried putting the cursor directly inside of the Right corner, and then trying to drag it to the left. That didn't work either. This text entry box from what I see isn't re-sizable. I'm not trying to re-size the browser window, as that won't change anything. Just the text entry box I'm entering my reply in. If that is what you meant. When I complete, and send the post. The next shown page will automatically re-size according to the size of my browser window. I'm using Firefox 3.6.27, as it is the only last version of the browser that lets me use many of the Accessibility aids created at that time. Newer browser versions can't use many of them, and I have tried to find a way to get to the developers of the older add-ons to try to get them to update them. I haven't been successful. One has been, but the download link doesn't work for that add-on. "Nevercrash". P.S. I almost forgot. I'm not using a Screen Reader, as I can't afford to purchase one at this time. I had one, but it isn't compatible with the fully upgraded, and updated Windows XP SP3. It keeps on crashing, and the company wouldn't do anything to help when Windows went to SP3, so I could continue to use it. I have Zoom Text Screen Reader - Magnifier version 8.0x and the upgrade to version 10 by Ai Squared costs $199 plus tax, shipping-handling,

This function came in with Firefox 8, if I am not mistaken. So if you cannot update to that due to possibly outdated accessibility aids, then there's not much that can be done about that. Other than you checking into newer options for accessibility, I'm afraid. I don't mean this harshly, I'm sorry if it sounds that way.

I also don't think people just stopped developing for the visually impaired. May I ask what you are using at this moment, which add-ons? I can check in the present Firefox what (newer) (other) options are available.

The developers have in the mean time answered. I'll write it in larger size for this answer.

Hi Jord,

I will let Rom address the text size questions, though if the text size in BOINC is increased then it will be even harder to fit the entire line from the advanced GUI on one's screen.

As far as I know, BOINC does work with standard screen readers for the visually impaired on Both Mac and Windows. But I do understand screen readers are less convenient to use than larger text if one is able to read larger text sizes.

Cheers,

As far as I know, if you change the default text size in Windows, it'll automatically adjust the sizes of all the text and components in BOINC Manager.

Windows also includes a utility called Magnifier that will devote part of the monitor to be the zoomed in view of whatever has focus. Magnifier works with all Windows applications.

Right now BOINC Manager just uses whatever the OS is configured to use. Making this configurable in BOINC Manager itself would be a big project.

Thanks for your fast reply. I tried newer Firefox versions, but you have to add the Nevercrash, and others to the browser, but for this specific one the link still doesn't work. The file will download, and disappear after the download without being able to install. I have tried to notify the creator to fix the download, but I can't get a message through. I even tried to contact Mozilla VIA the Mibbit Web site. They tell me that the won't do anything, or can't, or both. It's most likely do to the fact they might have tried, and got the same results as I got. My E-mail didn't reach them. Returned undeliverable, but the Nevercrash was most likely updated because it finally downloaded as I noted earlier. The present utility I use for the purpose is "Savememory". It only works till Firefox 3.6.27. Not further than that. I like Savememory as it helps me with keeping my browser from using up all my system resources, by allowing me to pause tabs, and later when I need them again. Often-times I'll use the tab again in the same day. Please pardon any typo's. I'm having trouble hitting the correct keys. I am using a spell-checker, but if I spell a word correctly even if it's the wrong word. It'll still be used. P.S. as to the BOINC Gui's using the text sizes set VIA Windows Display Options. The text in the GUI wasn't programmed to change VIA Windows settings. My Window text, and graphics gets larger, and BOINC stays as it was made as if The programmer was using Adobe flash to create the interface. I'm glad they aren't though, as this will add complications, because windows won't-can't change text, graphics, or anything else in a flash designed program.

Thanks both for the recent reply, but to Rom Walton additional Thanks, but that doesn't work well for me. If I use the Windows Magnifier. It makes the screen page a bit too small, and causes other anomalies that don't help. I use a setting in my Display Properties 115 DPI. The standard used by most is still 91 DPI, and many developers are still sticking to the old standard, and this causes problems with many sites that haven't been updated to allow users needing the higher setting. What this does is make all screen text, and graphics larger from the get go. Those sites still using the old standard 91 DPI like AOL for an example end up in displaying pages with overlapping text, and graphics. That's were Firefox tends to help, but menu design, and add-ons old and new add there own problems. I wish Firefox would go back to version 3.6.27, and update around the add-ons. Instead of coming out quickly with new versions, and the programmers that made many of the add-ons either don't keep up, or just stop making the add-ons.

OK, a quick search through present add-ons brings me to TooManyTabs - Saves Your Memory and Memory Fox.

Of course, there's a whole different option as well... not use Firefox, but use Google Chrome instead. Chrome has a lot of add-ons on its own.

Thanks for the message, but Savememory is the best for my purpose, but Mozilla isn't giving any time for the programmers to upgrade, or update, and if a producer catches up Mozilla puts out a new version as fast that the updated add-on won't work in. Look!! I hear they are at version 12, and not even looking back to make sure those add-ons are compatible. It looks as they are trying to do on the Internet what Bell Atlantic tried to do after it changed to Verizon. You know the word! "Monopoly" I checked the other 2 add-ons, but they require toooooo much work. Not designed with the Handicapped user in mind at all. That looks as to be what Mozilla is doing with their new versions of Firefox.

Which is why I pointed out Google Chrome as another contender.
Or what to think of Mozilla Seamonkey? If you want to stick with Firefox like code. They're only at 2.9.1, but it'll use some more memory as it's got things like the web-editor and the email client included into the browser.

Edit: Oh, having written that... wait a moment.
Apparently 2.9.1 is akin to Firefox 12. Sorry to get your hopes up. :-(
