Hello,

I am running an Intel i5 Core 2500k which has the Intel Graphics 3000 (secondary) onboard and a dedicated Nvidia GTX 260 216 GPU (primary).

Boinc Client 6.12.34 (x64)

I am getting the No Usable GPU Found message. Is there a way for the Boinc Client to use either or both of these GPU's?

You've got BOINC installed as a service (Protected application execution) which disables the GPU detection under Windows 7 and Vista. This is due to Microsoft believing that drivers and services should run in a different sessions. The service isn't able to see where the driver lives.

So you'll have to uninstall BOINC and reinstall it, then in the third installer screen click Advanced and uncheck the Protected Application Execution option before continuing the installation.

By the way, you will also need to install videocard drivers from the GPU manufacturer's web site. The drivers included in Windows will have key things such as OpenGL, CUDA and OpenCL disabled, because these are direct competitors to what Microsoft themselves are running/distributing.

The Intel HD Graphics aren't being detected yet as Intel hasn't released any API yet on how to do so. It has OpenCL capability, they say, but no drivers that enable that.

For your NVidia GTX 260, use something like GeForce 285.62 Driver from the beta/archive download search.

NVidia have acknowledged a major bug in the more recent drivers - they have promised the Einstein project that it will be fixed before the next release.

Awesome... Thank you for the information.

For the service, I guess I can disable it and run boinc at startup as a non protected program?

Thank you again.... :-)

I was using the correct driver for my GPU - Thank you again.

"driver version 29573" may be correct according to the documentation, but you will find that one of your chosen projects - Einstein@home - will not allow you to process any of their work until you downgrade it - it's one of the buggy ones.

Please read Einstein's Technical News.

I am noticing the GPU Missing errors when boinc restarts after a reboot. I will try the downgrade.

thank you

Decided to try the Beta Client and 28562 - So far so good....
