Message 42484 - Posted: 8 Feb 2012, 20:57:53 UTC

i have just installed boinc on this computer
I'm running project seti@home on the cpu en milkyway@home on the gpu

The program seemed to installed correct but there was a problem with milkyway@home, all the task went in calculation error after 1 second.

Seti@home was running fine.

I updated the graphic driver to the latest (the old one was just 2 months old) but it did't solved the problem

Day after that Seti@home is doing the same thing, calculation error after 1 to 3 seconds. So the problem is not in the graphic driver.

any ideas where to look?

Try a reboot first. Even though Windows won't tell you to reboot at the end of installing the new Catalysts, it's better that you do anyway.
If that doesn't work, at least your GPU's memory is now cleared as well.

As far as I can see from the error message at MW, (exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)) it's possibly driver related. But similarly possible that you have a main memory problem.

So, things for you to do:
1. Disable BOINC, since you run through work unnecessarily now.
2. Test main RAM with Memtest86+, available from http://www.memtest.org/.
3. Uninstall the Catalysts completely, clean them totally off the system, then reinstall either them or an earlier version. (See this FAQ for how to do that).

Its a known problem with the latest drivers and 4xxx series cards (11.8 was the last to work I think). For project related problems it's always best to check on the projects forums.

Message 42491 - Posted: 8 Feb 2012, 21:56:42 UTC - in response to Message 42486.

the computer has been shutdown 3 times since i've installed the new drivers

i'm not having any problems at all with other programs or games(mainly bf3 that really doesn't like bad drivers)

window logfiles doesn't show any problem at all

instead of running memtest i've runned burnedin as this program test more than just the memory (cpu, hdd, mem, gpu, network card, sound card and optical drives) and it shows no error at all.

http://www.passmark.com/products/bit.htm

even if there is an issue at the graphic driver, i see no reason why it should affect seti@home

installing the 11.8 driver did the trick
seti@home works again however i don't understand why as it doesn't use the gpu

however milkyway is not working, it refuses to take new tasks
deleting the project and adding it again shows why, he thinks i'm using an nvidia card...

Actually, it looks like the project is using the BOINC OpenCL detection, which the 6.12 clients don't do. You need the BOINC 7 client for that, which is still being tested. However, why not just try 7.0.14? Links available in the change log thread.

This isn't the last 7 test version, more will follow.

How did you install the 11.8 Catalysts? With or without the driver sweep?

seti@home works again however i don't understand why as it doesn't use the gpu

Because Seti doesn't have a Stock ATI app, you won't be able to use your ATI there until you're installed the third party Lunatics apps,

Your host at Seti is erroring out it's Stock 6.03 Wu's with a -226 (too many exits) error:
