I touched on a screensaver issue in the BOINC v6.12.33 client where it would issue an error dialog on boot and required a 3 fingered salute (Ctrl+Alt+Del) then Cancel the dialog to get it out of the screensaver. Was told to try installing 6.12.34. Done this, although I don't get the initialisation error at startup anymore, I'm still having to break out of the screensaver with (Ctrl+Alt+Del).

Your help would be much appreciated.

Did you restart Windows?

We'll need some more information, like:
* Which Windows version, and is it fully up-to-date?
* Which projects are you attached to?
* On what brand and model videocard and what version drivers?
** Are you using the GPU on this videocard, or the GPU on another videocard, for calculations?
* Is this the BOINC screen saver or a project screen saver?
-- The BOINC screen saver shows a list of projects you're attached to, with for each how many credits and RAC, interluded with a BOINC logo. Any of the project screen savers will show more project specific information.
* Can you view graphics in any format (small, maximized window) and get out of it?

Running Win XP Pro SP3 x86, fully up to date. XFX Factory OC'd HD9650 2GB. Drivers are current (as to mid Aug anyhow). Don't use the card for crunching numbers though, would run too hot.

CPU is Q9450. Installed 4GB RAM although what is available is limited by 32bit OS.

All screensavers are having this problem. The project graphics clear then the BOINC screensaver you're describing replaces it immediatelly without returning to the desktop. The only way I can get out of this is Ctrl+Alt+Del and Cancelling the following dialog.

Is boinctray.exe running, please check in Windows task manager. This program is used to check for computer-idleness, and for end-of-idleness. Please check that it's running, and if not, start it from the BOINC programs directory.

boinctray.exe IS running. The project graphics clear fine. I then get the generic BOINC screensaver stating "Shutting down BOINC screensaver." (Not sure of the precise wording, but something like that.) Then, no matter what I do, it either stays like that, or launches back into the project graphics. This time it flickered "Unspecified problem shutting down BOINC screensaver." (Again not sure of precise wording, but that's close enough.) briefly before backing back into the project graphics.

Interrupting the machine (mouse, keypress etc.) will get me back to this generic BOINC screensaver, but it takes a Ctrl+Alt+Del and Cancelling the resulting dialog to get me back to the desktop.
