My BOINC seems to lockup after the screensaver has been running for a few minutes. I've searched around and haven't really found anything related to the Radeon HD6970's, so I figured I'd start a new thread (which I assume is the issue).

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit
CPU: i7-950 (overclocked to 3.8ghz)
GPU: MSI Radeon HD6970
Memory: 6GB (3x 2GB)
BOINC 6.12.33

Current Projects running:
rosetta@home
Poem@home
The Lattice Project
Docking
Einstein@Home
Milkyway@home
SETI@home

Anyways, I've checked my GPU drivers and even re-installed them. My GPU isn't overlocked and I do not have any issues running BOINC in the background playing games such as SC2/Portal 2/etc with graphics settings to the max. My CPU stays around 55-60C with a moderate load. Rarely do I ever hit the 65-70C+ range. I've also tried reinstalling BOINC (removing all registry entries as well) and had no luck. And lastly, I've changed the preferences so that it uses at most 50% of the processors w/50% CPU time.

edit:
Are there any settings to control the GPU usage (aside from disabling/suspending it)? I just enabled the GPU while I was using my computer and it started hitting temperatures of 90C, at which my screen began to lag.

Found information about the TThrottle addon that I'll try messing around with. I'll just leave this post encase someone else has input/suggestions.

What Catalyst drivers are you running? What ATI GPU apps are you running?

After setting up TThrottle, I was able to leave my system on overnight and didn't wake up to any issues/lockups. So, I guess the issue was with BOINC pushing my graphics card to the max and causing it to overheat, leading to the lockups during the screensaver.

To answer your questions:
Catalyst Control Version: 11.6
Radeon Drivers: 8.861 (date: 5/24/2011)

GPU related Applications running:
Catalyst Control Center
MSI Afterburner (Don't use this for anything other than the temperature display that it adds to my taskbar)

So does that mean you're NOT running any ATI GPU science apps?

I suspect you're probably running the Milkyway ATI 0.82 (ati14) science app, i'd recommend not running screensavers at the same time as running GPU science apps, they compete for resources,
The drivers for the HD6970 aren't quite right yet, Other HD6970 users report problems with drivers after Cat 11.2, the problems will supposeably be fixed in Cat 11.8,

If your GPU temps are too high, you can switch to Manual Fan Control in CCC, on the Performance page, enable AMD Overdrive (leave the clocks as they are),
then enable Manual Fan Control, then Bump the Speed up higher, my HD5770 is set at 70%, this gives temps of ~60°C (Your mileage may vary)

Sorry, your question about GPU apps confused me. Yes, I am running the Milkway 0.82 (ati14). I the screensaver in my computers settings put at none, however, the BOINC screensaver should still activate, right?

I have messed with the fan control in the CCC, but turning it up just makes it annoying loud. I wouldn't get much sleep, haha.

No, if the screensaver is set to none, then there is no screensaver set, setting it to Boinc will activate the Boinc/Project screensavers,

I had the same problem with my screensaver locking up. I have a nVidia GeForce CT 420 and 2 Zotac Ion upgrades. I use tthrottle and do not have my screensaver turned on. I turned off my screensaver due to this problem. Now, I just turn my monitor on and off. My issue was heat related too.
