Hi, I'm a long time boinc user. I've used it on Win, OS X and Linux. I recently got a new macbook pro i7 and have installed boinc. However, every time it goes to the screen saver it says "connecting to boinc application"... "starting screen saver graphics" And then it restarts with the boinc logo with the same sequence. I have tried uninstalling, deleting in Library/ApplicationSupport/ as well as the Boinc Manager preferences... Any ideas what could be causing this? |

Which BOINC version are you using and which projects are you running the screen saver for? |

Hi, I downloaded the latest version this morning when I tried to fix the problem (I am away from my laptop at the moment so I can't check). I tried using set, foldit, einstein. It worked fine on my older mbp so not quite sure what's going on... |

Seti is down, so if you don't have work from them, you won't see their screen saver either. FoldIt and Einstein, I don't know... do either of those have a screen saver (graphics program) for the Mac? |

Yes, they do. My old macbook pro is part of those projects. |

What you can do is try to see if the graphics work, not that your graphics driver crashes or something like that. To do so, open BOINC Manager, Advanced view, temporarily set Run Always as Activity, then go to the Tasks tab, select any running task and click the Show graphics button. Does this show the graphics for that project's task correctly? You can also check in your slot directories for a file stderrgfx.txt. Not all project graphics create this file, but if it does, it might have some useful information. Finally, you could look in the Console program (/Applications/Utilities/Console) immediately after this happens to see if there is any useful information there. |

The graphics seem to work. I have several files in the project and the top one shows just fine. There is another line that when I click "show graphics" (and yes, it's not grayed out) nothing loads. I'm also getting "couldn't find bundleid for app minirosetta_graphics_1.92_i686-apple-darwin"... the graphics still show though! |

That's something you'd better ask at the Rosetta forums, since it's something their application needs. BOINC doesn't make project applications, so any project specific questions are better asked at the project's forums. |

I'm also getting: "core.init: ROSETTA3_DB not defined" and for some reason there appears to entries for Rosetta... |

I see Rosetta's graphics have problems. testing a task on Windows, clicking Show graphics on a running task, the initial window opens up and shows the graphics. When I then resize the window, or maximize it, it'll be all black; not showing anything. Which is, in my opinion, something to do with their graphics application. And so best asked at their forums. Edit: Ah... wait a minute. Literally. Then the graphics show back up again. |

Hm, But the problem manifests itself with not just rosetta. Einstein@home does that too. Plus the graphics otherwise work fine.... I think I'm getting somewhere. If I disable graphics switching it doesn't restart every few seconds. It even eventually shows me the big boinc screen with how far it is in the project, but no graphics! |

Hi, I've found a related post here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5808 Disabling the graphics switch fixes the problem. Thank you for your help! |
