Hi

i just got a little problem.
When Boinc is running and I watch tv (K!TV) on my tv-card it takes minutes to change the channel. I close Boinc and the channel change instantly.
I would prefer to run Boinc and watch tv but more than one channel.

Are you running CUDA? If you are, then that's what's interfering (as is everything when you run CUDA).

The default option there is to only use the GPU when the computer is otherwise idle.

Else, which project(s) are you running?
On which BOINC?
Which (exact brand and model and drivers) videocard is that?
On what rest of the system?

Excuse me for the time-out, but it's Easter. I was elsewhere occupied. :-)

Does the TV-card use a program that you have to load before you can watch TV with it? If so, you can use the <exclusive_app> tag in cc_config.xml to auto-suspend BOINC for as long as you watch TV.

To see how that works, check the "Ways around it?" section in my Nvidia CUDA & ATI CAL FAQ. I know you aren't using the GPU, but essentially the method is the same.

Or you can upgrade to BOINC 6.10.43 (if all is well, it'll come out on Monday) and use the new "While processor usage is less than X percent" option, which will suspend BOINC whenever a non-BOINC program takes up this many CPU cycles.

No there is no 2nd program to start just K!TV.exe and I tried to put it as exclusive_app in cc_config.xml but that doesn't help although Boinc has stopped to work. The line <no_gpus>1</no_gpus> didn't change anything.

Thx for your help but I'll turn Boinc off while I'm watching TV or test another TV-program.
It's a pity but the easiest way.
