An article about Quake Catcher Network recently appeared in the Los Angeles Times.

Sorry, but did I miss the reference to BOINC software somewhere in the article?
Or is this just another journalistic missed opportunity for some good PR?

Stories about specific projects seldom mention BOINC. That's OK; if people participate in the project they'll eventually go to the BOINC download page and see the generality of things.

Although I insist on mentioning BOINC to journalists and project PI's etc, it's my experience that they usually whittle out everything except one or two names (whether print or TV media). It used to be they would at least have an obligatory (if sort of unrelated) mention to SETI@home but even that seems to get dropped these days! Apparently they think the average person reading an article or watching a news item can't handle more than 2 or 3 names and/or acronyms. plus my name is never mentioned either and I do 99% of the stuff! ;-)
