At your account at one of your projects, enter the computing preferences. Under Network usage, fill in the amount of days between your connecting to the Internet:
Computer is connected to the Internet about every --- days
(Leave blank or 0 if always connected.
BOINC will try to maintain at least this much work.)

After you click the Update button in BOINC manager's Projects tab, BOINC should download enough tasks to last for that time (as stated in the preferences).

If that's not enough for you, you could additionally tell BOINC to
Maintain enough work for an additional --- days

Don't raise the value too fast. Try daily increments at maximum.

Gruß,
Gundolf

PS: If you are using local preferences from BOINC manager's Advanced menu, you'll have to set the values there, since the local preferences override the online ones.
