Apparently the BOINC created a user profile on Windows XP that is on some work machines. They are not allowing any local user profiles to be on the machines. Will this cause a problem running the application?

I am not quite sure what you are talking about. Care to explain further or in better detail what you mean?

In that case...

BOINC 6 uses limited user accounts for the applications to run in a sandbox security setting. BOINC applications run under these specially-created accounts have a minimal set of privileges. In early versions of BOINC, the applications typically ran as the user who installed BOINC, and had the full privileges of that account.

For more information, please check http://boinc.berkeley.edu/sandbox.php, ignoring the remark about it being for the Macintosh and for BOINC 6.11. It essentially works that way for all BOINC 6 versions on all platforms.
