So, I got yellow dog 6.2 installed on my Playstation 3 and I can't figure out how to get boinc on it (I'm linux dumb). I downloaded the client that was optimized for the cell off of here

http://www.dotsch.de/boinc/BOINC%20Clients.html

BOINC Client 6.2.19

So, I'm asking how to install this and get it working (if it is even the right one). Also, it sounds like people have been having trouble utilizing all of the cell's potential. Is this still the case when it comes to boinc?

Thanks

BOINC doesn't actually do any crunching. That's done by the science applications of the various projects.

So, first you find a project that has an application for the hardware/OS that you are planning to use.
Then you find a version of BOINC for that device.

What project are you planning to run?

ya, from google searches it looks like software for SETI and PS3Grid have been made for the cell. So, I guess I'm planning to run SETI.

In that case, there's no hurry.
Have a look at this thread: News on project outages

I don't know about your install problem, but someone who does will show up eventually.

Started looking around.
There's a line in the web site where you got BOINC:
Please read the Installation instructions and the readme which are included in the package in /opt/boinc/doc before you installing the package.

From the Wikipedia, Yellow Dog is based on Red Hat. So, basically Fedora.

From SPY HILL Research: Installing and Running the BOINC client on Unix

Isn't it possible to run Folding@Home on PS3? I think it's called "Life on playstation" or something. I mean since there are only 2 BOINC project that can use PS3 you might want to look inte Folding, just to give you more choices and it might be easier to run it. I actually don't know since I haven't tried to use any PS3 for crunching.
