On my profile at Rosetta, I see a large number of work units have been downloaded and then resigned, client status is "Compute error".

I'm running BOINC 6.4.5, wxWidgets 2.8.10, using the Ubuntu package:

Architecture: amd64
Version: 6.4.5+dfsg-2ubuntu2

Oddly enough, it appeared to work for a few minutes the first time, but then I had to move the directory to a different hard drive with more space. Does BOINC not support doing this via symbolic links?

I don't know if it's the symbolic links, but you could reinstall BOINC (same version) and point the installer to the right directory.

And you adjusted the permissions on the directory after you moved it?

I'm afraid there isn't an "installer" in that sense, because the package is installed non-interactively. I'd have to edit the config file manually.

The cc_config.xml and global_prefs_override.xml don't say anything about file paths... is there a setting I can add to them?

Also, I moved the directory entirely, preserving its attributes. They seem to be the same as before. I could try to reset everything, reinstall BOINC and then do the move before it first runs.

[code]
In /var/lib/:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 2009-11-03 01:36 boinc-client -> /media/sdc5/extra/boinc-client/

In /media/sdc5/extra/:

drwxr-xr-x 4 boinc boinc 4096 2009-11-05 07:02 boinc-client

apt-get install boinc on ubuntu adds /etc/init.d/boinc-client to things that get started when the system comes up. If you want to change the working directory of that boinc instance edit /etc/default/boinc-client

BOINC_DIR=/media/sdc5/extra/boinc-client/
