So far I'm not having a lot of luck in getting BOINC to recognise my GPU. I've just installed the latest version of BOINC (6.10.17), as well as the latest ATI driver pack (9.10 - although the actual display driver reports as 8.661.0.0) and BOINC still says that no CUDA devices were found.

System is running Vista Business SP2, with a Radeon HD2600 XT card.

Any ideas....?

Only Nvidia GPU's are Cuda devices, from GForce 8 onwards:

CUDA-Enabled GPU Products - NVIDIA

Can you post Boinc's start up messages please.

Have you tried following the instruction listed here:
http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/forum_thread.php?id=92

they worked for me, just make sure you have all 6 drivers in your system directory.

Cheers

Sorry Claggy, I was being stupid! What I meant to put was 'No usable GPUs found', not CUDA devices...

I know that not all projects use GPUs, but as mine is listed, I'd expect BOINC to at least pick up on it. The machine is an HP DX2300 microtower. Is it possible that it uses a customised version of the ATI chipset on the card that isn't compatible with BOINC? It's listed in the FAQ as being one that is....

Alphons,

the link is currently telling me that the project is down, and that there are too many connections... I'll keep trying and let you know what happens when I can access it.

03/11/2009 12:38:32 Running as a daemon

03/11/2009 12:38:32 OS: Microsoft Windows Vista: Business x86 Edition, Service Pack 2, (06.00.6002.00)

On Windows Vista and above, when BOINC is installed as a service (daemon, protected application execution), the GPU detection will not work. You will need to uninstall BOINC, reinstall it and in the 3rd screen of the installer click Advanced, then uncheck the Protected application execution option to solve this.

There will be no fix for this for the foreseeable future, it's a security 'feature' in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and some of the Server versions that does this.

Thank you for the explanation. I just upgraded to 6.10.17 and had the same problem/question, and now I know how to fix it :)

During the install, I read the information about 'Protected application execution', but was not clear on which 'application' would be limited. Would it be possible to re-write the message on the install so it is more explicit?
