Ok so here is the thing. I installed Boinc from the Ubuntu/debian repositories. Unfortunately, that boinc client/manager is pretty damn old (6.2.18) and so I can't run apps with my GPU. I checked the tutorial in the Unofficial BOINC wiki, which fortunately worked like a charm in my brother's box (except for installing shortcuts, it didn't say how.) Anyway, I installed BOINC in my brother's kubuntu box, which didn't have an older BOINC in it... so the problem is: in my own box, do I uninstall the old BOINC and install the new, or what? I have some WU working currently, which present my biggest uncertainty. Thanks in advance!!

Bump. Hah I solved it, I risked f*****g all my configuration up but I just couldn't lose any more crunch time.

Anyway, if you stumble upon this kind of predicament, simply COMPLETELY uninstall anything that has boinc in its name. Go to your system's package management (synaptic, kpackage) and type "boinc" in the search. Uninstall anything that has boinc in its name (probably ONLY boinc_client and boinc_manager.) Then, copy the downloaded .sh file into the usr folder (it is in the Filesystem folder (root in kubuntu)). You will probably need root privileges, so issuing the gksudo nautilus command (in gnome, dunno about kde sry!) and pasting in the usr folder should do the trick. Do not close the window, after pasting the file simply double click the file and click Run when prompted. It will automatically install boinc. Then, enter the new BOINC directory inside the usr folder and run the "run_client" file to run the client as a daemon. Finally run the run_manager file and you are done. The first time wait a bit for the benchmark to work out.

Thx for helping ppl -_-
