Just a question about the message in the title of this thread. What exactly is happening with the result of task xxx? Has BOINC Manager already sent the result previously, then tried again when I've manually updated the project? Or has the task been completed by someone else before me? (I know that two users working on the same task shouldn't happen but I've put in the possibilty just in case.)

It's referring to YOUR computer, and is probably your first suggestion.
This happens a lot on climateprediction, and doesn't matter there.

It just means that the project successfully received the data, but for some reason Boinc didn't get the acknowledgement. The message basically say, yes I got your info last time you connected, you can now do the necessary clean up.

Ok. I'm currently running World Community Grid as my one and only project. I don't get the message often - I was just curious as to why it occurred.

Don't know how previous 'recommended' clients would represent this...

It's the same in 5.10.45 and even 5.8.16.
