Message 26915 - Posted: 30 Aug 2009, 21:59:33 UTC

I've been running BOINC for about 10 months with no problem. For about the last 2 weeks I've not been able to make a connection to BOINC. Today I decided to place a message on this board to ask for help, and the site says I have no account. So not only is my software not working but my account has been lost. What is going on? Thanks in advance.

Did you ever create an account here before? Because here at BOINC no applications are crunched - you can't attach your computer(s) to this site.

To which projects are you attached and what are the error messages (if any)?

Gundolf

Each project is independent from each other. Boinc is also an independent entity that supplies the software used by the projects. Each has its own accounts and message boards.

Yes, I've had an account the whole time I've been enrolled in the Seti@home project.

2 different forums........ boinc is separate from seti and other projects. If you are having a seti related problem, please go to seti@home forums.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_index.php

if you are having problems in general with the boinc client/manager, we can help you.

please provide some feedback for me and others to use and advise you.

Message 26922 - Posted: 30 Aug 2009, 23:03:12 UTC

I did a little investigating in Control Panel/Services and found BOINC was not running. When I tried to start it I get an error message that says "BOINC service not started due to login failure". I found an area that seems to have a user name and password. ".\boinc_master" is the account name and the password is only shown in black dots. Is this the area where my problem is, and what belongs in those blanks? Should I go to the Seti@home website although it shows BOINC is not starting? Thanks for being patient.

Did you install BOINC as a service?

What happens if you start the BOINC manager?

There is no active user named DennisA at SETI. What is your account name there? (I'm just curious and we can help you better if we can see your computers and tasks)

Did you change anything with your operating system in the last two weeks - new service pack or such?

You have three tasks downloaded, the last one at 23 Aug 2009 2:54:46 UTC. That's less than two weeks. :-)

You posted your question at SETI too. Shall we switch there?

You could try to run the installer of your BOINC version again. Perhaps that corrects the login problems for the BOINC user.

I just finished the reinstall, and Seti is working fine now. I should have tried that in the first place. Thanks again for your help and patience.
