If there WAS any malware in BOINC, tens of thousands of people would be reporting it.

What you're seeing is called a "false positive". Your AV program has a search string in it that appears as part of the BOINC software.
Report this to the McAfee people, and/or use the options in the AV to exclude ALL of the BOINC folders from being scanned by it.

mcafee has been lately, tagging boinc stuff with trojans.... don't know why, but it's not a problem. yet!!!!!!!
