Have run BOINC for several years now, and finally decided to upgrade from ver. 6.2.18. Stopped all processes and exited properly.

Clicked on current recommended upgrade and system appeared to load and set properly -- however, system will not upgrade. I looked back over the message board, but didn't see any comments about a problem like this -- any ideas out there?

There are plenty of similar problems, but they usually include a slightly fuller description of what went wrong :-)

The commonest: can't find boinc...msi

This isn't a BOINC problem, but a Windows (you do use Windows, I presume?) installer problem. What it's actually looking for is the old (v6.2.18) installer file, so it can find out what to uninstall as part of the upgrade process. Re-run the installation for v6.2.18 in 'repair' mode, and then try again.

Rich --

What you describe sounds like my problem, now all I have to do is locate the missing file (I guess). Where would I find the 6.2.18 ver installer files ??

OK -- newest stable version is now up and running. Thank you for the help, although I still cannot figure out what went wrong. Oh well, chalk it up to my stupidity, or mis-typed instructions. Thanks again ...

Microsoft will sometimes lose the information on what is installed on your system. Then the affected .msi file (Microsoft Installer) of the installed application went corrupt.

When trying to install a newer version of the same product, it may try to uninstall the older product but for that it needs a non-corrupted .msi file of said product. The installer can't find the correct .msi file and throw that error.

Another possibility is to use "Windows Install cleanup" - MS tool for delting instalatin inf for such corrupted installations.
Downladable for freem from MS site.
