My lovely wife, bless her heart, bought me a new HP desktop "just because"! It has Vista, of course, and I am contemplating moving my project stuff from my XP machine to this one. Right now, I have a completely fresh OS with nothing set up except Outlook. Does anyone have any words of wisdom about how I would best go about putting my projects back on this machine? Obviously, I would prefer to avoid the problems so many others seem to have had, and would be completely happy simply starting from scratch on my new machine and leaving my previous stuff on my other box.

why move your projects from one pc to another?... easier to let the xp one finish what it has and then hit no new task for all projects...

dl a fresh copy of boinc, install, you can attach those projects using the urls of the project in the attach window of boinc... besides... a new computer will show up in the system as the unique id will be different...

vista's problems have all been worked out to my knowledge as i have one...

is the new hp 32 bit or 64 bit?

For your existing projects, be sure to attach as Existing user. Then, to make life easier, use the same password as before.
But you MUST use the same email address as before if you want all of your data to belong to the same "you". Preferably also the same username.

Yeah, this is how I'm leaning. My XP stuff is almost finished - best to let it all finish up in peace.

"is the new hp 32 bit or 64 bit?"

64-bit.

thanks for the thoughts.
