So there is a free program (for personal use) called Secunia PSI which scans your computer and tells you which are insecure and how to fix them. Normally its just a simple update to the latest version.

I first heard of it from PC Magazine and now I recommend it to all Windows users. It is a pretty handy program.

Thought I should share this with the BOINC community if people haven't heard. They are also looking for help translating.

So here's me being 99% secure. The only insecurity it keeps giving me is Windows XP Pro and IE 7 (which I never use anyway). ;-)

internet explorer = crap of Microsoft IMO.... Firefox is the way...

thanks for sharing, I've never heard of this and i will give it a try...

edit:

it found 8 rpograms unprotected... i knew their was a couple... mostly non-up to date programs like itunes/safari, java, flashplayer, mirc which i hardly use...

for some reason, the thing list vista as a cat 4 threat... oh, font engine vul...

maybe we should put this in our signature... as the more secure computers, the better off boinc is, and the rest of the internet.

i don't know why but i just hate apple software....

I've added it to my signature and been just trying to raise awareness as I agree that the more secure computers are the better we all are in the end. Maybe security companies should include this with their software.

Also if you didn't notice there is a nice feature where you can compare your score to the rest of the world and see general area's (country, state, etc) scores. Its interesting to see how long after Patch Tuesdays it takes for the scores to climb back up again.
