Those of you who are attached already may have noticed that since a couple of months, I am doing sporadic runs of work at Hydrogen@Home, usually to check mortal things like credit and whether or not the server can take it all.

Today I was running a special Queen's Day run, until that idiot did his attempted attack on the Royal Family and in the process killed 4 innocent bystanders. Which is why I stopped the run early.

But I will be continuing it tomorrow. There are still some 9 million tasks to give out and to test if the server can take it. Which is why I am writing this post.

Jack informed me that he is on the lookout for more of you, complete with more of your hosts. This to consolidate that the daemons work correctly, that we can maintain database validity even when we're straining everything to the max. Your hosts don't need to be the latest and greatest, even oldies can easily do the work we're giving out.

For Windows it needs a minimum of 512MB of RAM and Windows 2000 to be able to do our work.

Sure, there will be errors in work and no you won't get free credit for work with errors (we're not Cosmology@Home, you really do have to do something to get the dough!). My last run had an overall 8% error margin, which isn't bad considering that most of them were caused by the zip/unzip binaries in Linux and one person running through a lot of tasks while all he needed was a reboot of the computer to fix his problem.

Jack is still busy trying to include a 7zip application, to overcome those zip/unzip binary troubles. He is also busy trying to work out the kinks in the Macintosh applications, both PPC and Intel, although these applications are tested out on another pre-alpha project as well. His problem is the version of OSX which is being a pain in the ass.

Anyway, as you can see we're busy over there. So why not come and join us? Our address is at http://hydrogenathome.org/. The project hasn't had the need for an invitation code in a long while, so there's really nothing that should keep you away. :-)

Note: At present Hydrogen@Home will try to download almost 100MB worth of applications to your hard drive. So you will need a good internet connection and a lot of patience. This is one of the things why Jack is so eagerly researching the inclusion of a 7zip module, so he can 7zip all that stuff into a way smaller download.

i'll add it to my quad-core. already got 12 projects, whats another...

understood about the amount of space required...

i'm actually thinking about dropping comso or atleast putting it on no new task expect for 1 day a month.

yea, 7zip takes a 100 mb and cuts it down to 15 mb to 20 at the most...

some games modders are starting to use it like sins distant stars mod....

It is down for the moment. All the work you get at the moment is resent as we had lots of trouble making new. Jack will do a full back-end upgrade as soon as the 2,300 tasks still in progress are done and returned. Which can take another 12 hours, easily.

Hi Ageless, I didn't know you & Jack ran Hydrogen. Will have to frequent this forum more often :)

Been attached to Hydrogen since May last year, but every time I tried for wu, had no joy. All internal rigs are AMD & Windows XP/Vista with min 4gb ram.

Will keep an eye out for when you start another run.

I haven't made any work since Labor Day. Jack is testing some work and applications destined for DrugDiscovery at the moment. Although it's running with lots of errors. More to figure out.

It's still mostly Jack who runs H2. I am just helping out where I can.
A bit in the same way that we're helping out getting DrugDiscovery.com running.
