For some reason one day Boinc is able to connect to local host, and it processes units fine. The next day, boinc won't connect to local host and I'm unable to process any units. How can this problem be fixed?

Thanks

Derek,

We need just a bit more info from you - Could you please tell us what OS, what flavor of install (single user, shared, service), and did you use the default installer option re "Start Boinc at logon"?

OS: Windows 2000 pro, single user, with start boinc at login.

Derek,

First, try this:
Close Boinc Manager.
Navigate to your BOINC folder.
Find and open the file gui_rpc_auth.cfg with Notepad.
Delete everything in it (it should be a 32 character hexadecimal key in there).
Press return once, so it shows an empty line in the file.
Save the file and exit it.

Start Boinc Manager.
What happens?

If this doesn't work, another method is to remove Boinc from the startup folder, or use msconfig to remove it from the startup sequence. Using either of these last two options will mean that you will have to start Boinc Manager manually, from the Start/All Programs menu.

Regards,

Michael

I have the same problem, but I believe it relates to the startup sequence and I don't know how to change it.

Typically on startup BOINC starts before my network connection has established. It then says it can't connect and no project or work shows in the manager and Retry Communications does nothing.

If I manually start BOINC in those cases it immediately starts up OK.

Sometimes it does start OK, but I don't know why.

(I'm running Seti@Home)

Lindroth,
I am almost certain that you are correct about sequence. All you have to do to seehow things bet mixed up there is open task manager and mote the order of processes listed, then reboot and repeat the procedure. Rarely is the sequence the same. There are just too many processes, AV, Network, drivers, peripheral device software loading simultaneously.
I suggest you do as I've suggested to Derek, the gui_rpc_auth trick works for many. If that fails to solve, then either re-install Boinc without the "Start at logon" option enabled, or do the startup folder or msconfig trick I detailed to Derek.
