Starting a few weeks ago, I noticed that the BOINC manager seems to be permanently in "suspended" state on my system. I don't remember changing anything at that time. Is there a way to find out why BOINC doesn't want to run on my system anymore? I've had it running successfully for a couple of years. I'm running version 6.2.18.

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned that I've been studying my BOINC preferences for anything that might be interpreted by the BOINC manager as "Don't run anytime". I'm stymied. Any suggestions on a specific preference that might be interpreted by the manager as such?

Can you please post the contents of your global_prefs.xml and if it exists, the contents of your global_prefs_override.xml file? You can find these in your BOINC Data directory (which shows in the second line of the start up messages in BOINC Manager). Depending on your OS, this directory may be hidden, so make sure you enabled Show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Did you check the Activity menu in BOINC manager's advanced view, as Sekerob suggested? If you select Run always there, BOINC will run regardless of any preferences, unless you use the various Suspend buttons (which will read Resume if you did use them).

Gundolf

<suspend_if_no_recent_input>20.0</suspend_if_no_recent_input>

This means 20 minutes after the last keyboard/mouse activity was detected, boinc will suspend computations. To change this so it runs all the time, go to World Community Grid's website, find the correct profile and change that entry to 0.0

Sorry, but could you explain a bit more about "find the correct profile"? I've signed in at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do , but I don't see any fields or buttons for changing my preferences.

It's via http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do, click on the Selected profile option (probably default), Custom profile, Advanced options, Stop work after computer is idle for: 0.0 minutes, Save.

That did the trick. BOINC is running again now. Thanks!

(For the record: I still have no clue how that property got set.)
