Message 23418 - Posted: 3 Mar 2009, 13:16:06 UTC

I may be missing somethhing here as its some time since I have used BOINC. I have one PC with 6.2.19.0 running fine and obeying prefs. I have another with the current distro 6.4.5.0 running but not obeying prefs. In fact the latter says it has read the prefs override file which sort of indicates that prefs will never be obeyed? I do not see a local override file. What is happening please?

Thanks
Ian

Welcome back, lost son. Nice to see you again, Ian. :-)

The preferences override file will be in your BOINC data directory, wherever you put that one. That's impossible for me to know as you're on Linux.

But to not use them again, do this: BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences->Clear.

And if you ever just look at those preferences, don't exit with the OK button as that saves them. If just snooping, use the Cancel button.

The override preferences will override any of the same preferences from the web site. (and then some).

You can clear the local preferences by clicking: Advanced, Preferences..., Clear, then Yes.

Jord!

Hey how are you?
Funny that...I just read some old emails of yours. I lost my login for boinc and was searching around on PCs and came across a few of the topics that used to occupy us - and vex us for that matter. Is your email the same? I will send you my updated one.

The wanderer returns!

Nice to see you are OK and still here.

Thx everyone for the advice. I will go fix it.

Cheers
Ian (from my now found account rather than the new one)

OK I have said through boinc manager to clear local prefs in the advanced menu. But when I restart boinc ( running as a service under windows xp) it then ignores all prefs. I am trying to set it to compute only when the pc is idle for 1 minute. I have looked at the xml file and it looks right.

The other version I have (6.2.19.0) IS obeying prefs. I am using my account web based prefs not local ones btw. 6.4.5.0 is doing something differently. Odd I would say.

Ian

To repeat Sekerob's question:
Now, in BOINC Manager Activity menu, what run option is selected?

Gruß,

Ah ha. Good point. I forgot that. Thanks.
I don't usually (or never used to) use boinc manager so a lack of familiarity combined with stupidity meant ----> I got it wrong.

Thanks all. I think its going good now.

regards

Ian
