Check the settings in the Computing preferences on your account page at the project. It's the last 2 in Processor usage. Which one depends on your BOINC version.

Also check in the Advanced section of the BOINC manager menu, under preferences / processor usage, which is specific to that computer. (Only applies if you've deliberately / accidentally created a preferences over-ride file.)

What about the percentage of processors? Do you run CUDA tasks? Are you using local preferences? What is your BOINC version?

And before we have to ask all the other questions, please give information about your system. Also, be eloquent when describing your problem. Short sentences don't get you anywhere. We cannot see your computer, we cannot see what it does or does not do. Only you can describe that to us.

Give a link to the system on any of the projects you crunch for.
Give the start up messages from BOINC Manager.
Give lots of details about your system.

You'll get better help with better descriptions.

"System clock was turned backwards": probably has very poor time metrics, and possibly running in EDF. I would expect a second task to be downloaded and to start running as the current task approaches 100% and the time "To completion" approaches 2 hours 24 minutes (default cache size for an unmodified project 'BOINC settings' page).

But to be sure, we still need to know the name of the application/project which is running.

Try to follow this FAQ, which tells you how to adjust your preferences so you do work on all processors.

If you'd say which project it was for, I (or anyone else) could provide the links to the web-site preferences setup. When you do not want to use the preferences in BOINC Manager, do clear them out as they will override any of the same preferences you get from the web-preferences. BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences->Clear.

I'm not sure about the "System clock was turned backwards". I haven't payed any attention to it before.

That list leads to this page for cpdn. Where the bench marks are a bit suspicious.

Looks like that's his old computer, Les.
Look here at RCN for his up-to-date one. I see BOINC recognizes 2 CPUs.

So if it is only crunching tasks with one, then either William is using the overriding preferences, or it's doing something completely different with that second core.

What does the Windows Task Manager->Processes tab say?

I just updated every project that I have listed. They all should say that I have the 6000+ dual core.
In the Processes tab it reads that I'm running two different projects. "CPU Usage: 100%
When I only ask for 'no new work' everything except for one project it will only run on one core.

OK, terminology first:

- Project: The science project of your choice. Seti, Einstein, Spinhenge, BURP etc. are projects.

- Task: The actual science done by the science application. It's what is running on your computer.

- Work Unit: One or more tasks, depending on the project and its use of dependency/quorum. In case of Seti, two tasks sent to two different computers, make up one Work Unit.

- Result: When the task is done, the result file is sent back to the project.

------------------
With that done, you see two tasks run in Task Manager, but BOINC only shows one running? If so, exit BOINC completely. (Usually BOINC Manager->File->Exit, on a single user install (non-service, not the protection application execution)).

Now check in Task Manager->Processes.
boinc.exe should no longer be running. But is there still a task running?
If there is, note down its name and tell us about it.

When done, click that task, click End Process (in the right lower corner). Acknowledge your choice.

Then restart BOINC. (Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager)

How many tasks are running now? If still one, post all your start up messages again, from "Starting BOINC client version etc." to "restarting task name"

I was running BURP and World Community Grid.
I exited BOINC. BURP and World Community Grid were still running. I 'End Process'ed them and restarted BOINC. Both tasks errored and sent then back then got new work units.
